Wildcats Run ECC Winning Streak To 9

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Middle hitters Cristina Apostol (Bucharest, Romania) and Tirzah Peters (Amherst, N.Y.) combined for 21 kills to lead the Daemen College women's volleyball to their ninth consecutive win in East Coast Conference play, a 3-1 defeat (25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22) of Long Island University Post today at the Pratt Recreation Center. The win kept Daemen's unblemished ECC record intact (9-0) as they improved to 15-9 overall this season. LIU Post, which entered the game as the only ECC team with more overall wins than Daemen, fell to 15-10 overall and 5-4 in league play.

Apostol, a 6-foot-2 junior, powered down a team-high 11 kills, her 10th match this season in double figures. Peters totaled 10 kills on just 13 attempts, good for a career-best hitting percentage of .769. The 6-foot sophomore, who entered the match ranking third in total kills among the ECC leaders, has now reached double figure kills in 13 matches this season.

Redshirt junior Courtney Bernard (Lancaster, Ohio) and freshman Sam Logan (Eden, N.Y.) also contributed as Daemen continued to showcase a balanced offensive attack. Bernard and Logan totaled nine kills apiece. Freshman setter Isa McCaffrey (North Royalton, Ohio) quarterbacked the offense yet again, recording 38 assists in the match.

Defensively, the duo of Ali Greenwood (North Aurora, Ill.) and Georgia Wicker (Woodstock, Ill.) led the way for the Wildcats. Greenwood posted a team-high 16 digs and Wicker chipped in with 10. As a team, Daemen limited LIU Post to just a .117 hitting percentage.

Lauren Kloos (12 kills) and Asiya Way (10 kills) paced the LIU Post offense. The Pioneers also got nine kills from Rachel Londot, the 2017 ECC Player of the Year. Londot entered the match averaging 3.12 kills per set, good for second among the conference leaders.

Kassie Akouri-Tejedor and Giulia Genna ran the Pioneer offense, totaling 24 and 15 assists, respectively. Genna added 11 digs to post a double-double. Londot notched a match-high 19 digs and Abby Eckhardt chipped in with 13.
