The win gives Daemen a two-game lead over Bridgeport, Molloy College and Long Island University-Post in the conference standings, as the Wildcats improve to 12-8 overall and 6-0 in the league. Daemen has now won five out of its last six matches, with the lone loss coming to 2017 NCAA Division II East Region Champion University of New Haven. Bridgeport dropped to 10-6 overall and 4-2 in the ECC. Sophomore Tirzah Peters (Amherst, N.Y.) paced a balanced Daemen attack with 13 kills. It marks the 10th time this season she has registered double-digit kills. Juniors Meghan Ballou (Eden, N.Y.) and Cristina Apostol (Bucharest, Romania) both registered 11 kills. Freshman setter Isa McCaffrey (North Royalton, Ohio), who entered the match ranked first in the league in assists per set (10.85), dished out 41 assists and also added nine digs. Defensively, sophomore Georgia Wicker (Woodstock, Ill.) led Daemen with 16 digs, while classmate Ali Greenwood (North Aurora, Ill.) and freshman with Sam Logan (Eden, N.Y.) both chipped in 15 each. Logan also added nine kills and three service aces. Junior Morgan Knight (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) paced the Purple Knights with 15 kills. Senior Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) dished out 37 assists for the visitors, while sophomore Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Tex.) chipped in 22 digs. In the first set, Bridgeport jumped out to a 5-1 lead before Daemen began to chip away and eventually tied the score at 6-6. As the teams traded runs, the Wildcats took a 21-18 lead and eventually won the set 25-19. The second set saw Daemen jump out to a quick 6-0 lead and led the whole set. The Purple Knights were able to close within one point (16-15), but the Wildcats rattled off four straight points and won the second set 25-19. The Wildcats faltered in the third set after trading blows with Bridgeport. The Wildcats led 13-7 when Bridgeport put together multiple three-point runs to take the lead. The Wildcats then went up 22-21, but the Purple Knights won four consecutive points and ultimately claimed the set 25-23. Daemen was not to be denied in set four, as it took control with two five-point runs late in the set en route to a 25-13 win. The match is the first of two this weekend for the Wildcats at Lumsden Gymnasium.
