Wildcats Cruise Past NYIT To Stay Unbeaten In League Play

Daemen Puts Up 98 Points, But Loses Star Sischo To Injury

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - Breon Harris (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) and Quinn Lee Yaw (Jamestown, N.Y.) each recorded season-highs in the scoring column to lead the Daemen College men's basketball team to a 98-72 victory over New York Institute of Technology in an East Coast Conference contest at Recreation Hall today. With the win, Daemen improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in ECC play this season. NYIT dropped to 1-10 overall and 1-3 in the league.

Daemen shot a season-high 60.3 percent from the field, connecting on 38 of their 63 shot attempts. The field goal accuracy included a barrage of three-pointers as the Wildcats hit 12-of-22 from distance (season-high 54.4 percent). It marked the second straight game that Daemen has hit double-figure three-pointers. The Wildcats canned 14 triples in their 102-70 win at Long Island University Post just two days ago. The team's two latest victories move them to 66-2 when scoring 90 or more points since the start of the 2009-10 season. It's the first time Daemen has surpassed 90 points in back-to-back games since mid-February of 2016.

Harris, a 5-foot-9 junior guard, caught fire early and finished with a game-high 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting. He knocked down 5-of-6 shots from three-point range, establishing a new career-high for made three-pointers in a game, while adding five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Lee Yaw made his third start of the season and responded with 21 points on 10-of-13 shooting, while also grabbing nine boards.

The Wildcats also got solid outings from Deion Hamilton (Rochester, N.Y.) and Jeff Redband (Batavia, N.Y.) who each contributed 17 points. Hamilton shot 7-of-16 from the field, while Redband went 6-for-10, including 3-for-6 from behind the arc. Freshman guard Trevor Book (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) cracked double figures for the first time, finishing with 11 points and five boards.

The Daemen offensive outburst came despite losing leading scorer Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) to an injury. Sischo, who entered the game averaging 24.4 points and a Division II-best 12.1 rebounds per game, scored two points and grabbed four rebounds before exiting after just 10 minutes. The extent of Sischo's injury is not yet known, but he's the latest high profile player to go down for Daemen. The Wildcats have been without starting guards Jay Sarkis (Rochester, N.Y.) and Darius Garvin (Elmira, N.Y.), as well as key reserve Nick Petrucelli (Hicksville, N.Y.) for much of the season.

Opong Bramble came off the bench to score 20 points and grab eight rebounds for NYIT. Marcus Saint-Furcy totaled 16 points and game-high six assists, and the Bears got 12 points from Kieran Hamilton.

It took the Wildcats less than five minutes to open up a double-figure lead as Harris' three-pointer at the 15:15 mark of the first half made the score 18-6. The Daemen lead ballooned to 19 points when Lee Yaw's jumper at 9:36 put them ahead 30-11. NYIT battled back and cut the deficit to nine on Saint-Furcy's three-pointer with just four minutes to play in the period, but it was back to a 13-point Daemen lead at halftime (48-35).

NYIT got as close as eight points early in the second half. Bramble's layup at the 15:58 mark pulled them within 54-46. But, an offensive rebound and put-back by Book ignited the Wildcats on a 16-2 run. Dmarco Barnes (Baldwin, N.Y.) canned a pair of trifectas, the second of which capped the spurt with Daemen leading 70-48 at the 9:50 mark.

The Wildcats led by 17 points with under four minutes to go. They closed the game on a 15-6 run, opening up the widest spread of the game at 26 points.

NYIT shot just 41.4 percent for the game (29-for-70), including a chilly 3-for-17 from three-point range (17.6%). Daemen also out-rebounded the Bears 39-28.

Daemen, which is ranked fourth in the latest Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region media poll, , has now won 24 of their last 27 games dating back to last season. Today's win extended their winning streak in ECC road games to 10, and was also their seventh consecutive win in the series with NYIT. Daemen leads the all-time series 8-3.

The Wildcats will now enjoy a nearly two-week hiatus between contests. They'll emerge from the NCAA-mandated holiday break with three home games over five days, beginning Dec. 29 when St. Michael's College visits Lumsden Gymnasium. The post-Christmas stretch also includes non-conference games against College of St. Rose (Dec. 31) and nationally-ranked St. Anselm College (Jan. 2).
