The match also marked the home opener for the Wildcats, and it took place at Miller Tennis Center. With the loss, Daemen dropped to 0-2 on the young season. On the other side, Roberts Wesleyan kept their perfect record intact, improving to 3-0. The visiting Redhawks opened up a 1-0 lead in the match after sweeping through doubles play. Nthabi Mogopdi and Andrea Gallardo teamed up on a 6-1 win over DC's Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) and Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) in the No. 1 doubles position. It was also a 6-1 final in the No. 2 doubles position where RWC's Salome Darsalia and Bijisha Shrestha bested DC's Alliya Foster (Bronx, N.Y.) and Courtney Otis (Marcellus, N.Y.). RWC also won by default in the third doubles position. In singles play, Stasiuk battled Mogopodi before falling a thrilling, three-set affair (4-6, 6-4, 11-9) to even her personal singles record at 1-1 this season. Stasiuk led 9-8 in the third set tie-breaker, but Mogopodi rallied for three successive points to earn the win. Gallardo (6-0, 6-0 in second singles), Marousia Bosch (6-0, 6-2 in third singles) and Shrestha (6-2, 7-6 in fourth singles) all picked up singles wins for the Redhawks. Shrestha's win came despite a valiant effort from DC's Foster. The Redhawks were also awarded points by default in the fifth and sixth singles positions. Daemen takes a break from dual match play to participate in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Championships this weekend (Sept. 14-17) which are being held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.
