Wildcats Return To Winning Ways

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Meghan Ballou (Eden, N.Y.) and Sam Logan (Eden, N.Y.) combined for 27 kills to lead the Daemen College women's volleyball team to a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-19, 25-17) this morning over Franklin Pierce University in a non-conference, neutral site match held at the Voller Athletic Center on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College.

Daemen, which had a modest four-match winning streak snapped with a five-set loss to Urbana University last night, has now won five of their last six matches to sit with a 7-7 overall record this season. The Wildcats are now 48-26 in all matches against regional opponents since the start of the 2016 season. Franklin Pierce, a member of the NCAA Division II East Region and the Northeast-10 Conference, dropped to 4-13 this season with the loss.

Ballou, who hammered down a season-high 17 kills in last night's loss to Urbana, came back with 14 more today. Logan added 13 kills and 15 digs to register the third double-double of her career.

The Wildcats also got solid offensive efforts from their trio of middle hitters. Cristina Apostol (Bucharest, Romania) and Tirzah Peters (Amherst, N.Y.) totaled nine kills apiece, while Corutney Bernard (Lancaster, Ohio) chipped in with eight. Together, the trio combined to hit .358 in the match.

Isa McCaffrey (North Royalton, Ohio) ran the offense from the setter position and tallied 44 assists, her fifth match this season with 40+. She also added 10 digs to mark her second career double-double. Ali Greenwood (North Aurora, Ill.) contributed a team-best 16 digs while wearing the libero jersey today.

As a team, Daemen hit .303 in the match, their third this season with a hitting percentage over .300. All three have come in the team's last five matches.

Sara Roach paced the Ravens with nine kills. No other FPU player managed more than five.

Lauren Herrera totaled 19 of the Ravens' 25 assists, and Marisa Lamb registered a match-high 19 digs.

A big weekend home-stand looms for the Wildcats as they'll host N.Y. Institute of Technology (Sept. 21) and Long Island University Post (Sept. 22) in East Coast Conference matches, as well as non-conference opponent University of New Haven (Sept. 23). The trio of opponents combined to go 79-23 last season, and New Haven is the defending NE-10 Conference and NCAA Division II East Region champion.
