Today's loss was just the second for Daemen in their last nine matches, moving them to 9-8 on the season. New Haven, which has 12 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances on its resume, moves them to 14-3 overall. The Chargers, who also captured the Northeast-10 Conference championship as part of their 26-8 campaign in 2017, has now won seven straight and 14 of their last 15 matches. Mallory Nowicki (10 kills) and Camille Garden (10 kills) led the way offensively for UNH, while Kristine Rios recorded 31 assists. Defensively, Brianna Mirmina (16) and Nowicki (12) led the team in digs; Nowicki was the lone player to record a double-double in the match. The Chargers combined for 10 blocks compared to Daemen's two. Offensively for Daemen, Tirzah Peters (Amherst, N.Y.) led the Wildcats with 11 kills, and Isa McCaffrey (North Royalton, Ohio) totaled 32 assists. McCaffrey, the two-time reigning East Coast Conference Setter of the Week, has now posted 30 or more assists in 10 consecutive matches. Defensively, Allison Post (Windsor, Calif.) and Ali Greenwood (North Aurora, Ill.) combined for 21 digs. Daemen lost in straight sets for the sixth time this season. However, no set was lost by more than five points. Daemen committed 23 hitting errors in the match compared to New Haven's 11. The longest run for either team came in the first set was only three points resulting in a 25-21 win for the Chargers. The Wildcats hurt themselves with five service errors in the fset. In the second set, with the score tied at 10-10, New Haven rattled off a four-point run, the longest of the set. Moving the score to 14-10, the Wildcats were unable to climb out of the hole losing 25-20. New Haven rattled off a six-point run to put them up 11-4 in the third, but Daemen responded with a five-point run of their own, moving the score to 11-9. After trading points, Daemen was never able to regain the lead losing the final set 25-20. The Wildcats' only lead was at 3-2 in the first set. The match was the third of three in as many days at Lumsden Gymnasium for the Wildcats as they welcomed a trio of opponents who entered the weekend with a combined 107-37 record since the start of the 2017 season. Daemen defeated ECC foes New York Institute of Technology (3-1) and Long Island University Post (3-1) in the first two matches of the weekend. Looking ahead, Daemen travels to take on defending ECC champion Molloy College at 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 29.
