Salem, which competes as an NCAA Division II independent, moved to 1-0 on the season. The visiting Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the match after scoring a pair of wins in doubles play to open the match. In a new scoring format for NCAA Division II matches this season, the outcome of doubles matches will award a single point to the team winning at least two of the three matchups, as opposed to awarding points for each individual doubles victory. SU's Julia Piatek and Karolina Glowinska were 6-2 winners over Daemen's Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) in the No. 1 doubles position. Piatek and Glowinska were coming off an impressive showing at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic Region Championship earlier this month as they advanced to the semifinals of the tournament. The Tigers secured the point for doubles play with a 6-0 victory by Anna Kunic and Kristina Vuksanovic over DC's Alliya Foster (Bronx, N.Y.) and Courtney Otis (Marcellus, N.Y.). In singles play, Piatek, Kunic, Glowinska and Vuksanovic all scored wins in the first through fourth positions in the lineup. Daemen returns to non-conference action this Sunday, September 30 when they visit Merrimack College.
