The loss was Daemen's second on this early season trip to Delaware, sending their overall record to 1-2. The Wildcats were coming off a 5-2 loss Saturday to Goldey-Beacom College. Wilmington, whose team nickname is also the Wildcats, improved to 1-1 with today's win. The WU Wildcats are coming off a 14-6-1 campaign in 2017, and they've been picked to finish second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference this year via the league's preseason poll. Daemen got off to a fast start and jumped ahead just over seven minutes into the contest when junior forward Jamie Boyar (Williamsville, N.Y.) found the back of the net. Boyar took a long through ball from the midfield, and stayed persistent in her attack after her initial attempt was blocked by a WU defender. The scoring play marked Boyar's second goal of the season, tying her for the team lead with sophomore midfielder Sam Hanes (North Tonawanda, N.Y.). Possession alternated for much of the game, but Daemen's 1-0 lead remained intact heading into halftime. Wilmington picked up the equalizer at the 56:14 mark when Alex Keck launched a shot from the far right wing which made its way over the head of sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Flores (Seattle, Wash.). Again, the teams alternated possession and scoring chances. The Wildcats placed six shots on goal over the next 30 minutes, all of which were turned aside by WU goalie Kate Tubo. On the other end, Flores made a save on the only shot to come her way and WU's Jasmine Brake rang one off the crossbar in the 77th minute. The game appeared to be headed for overtime but the home-standing Wildcats had other ideas. On a corner kick situation, WU's set play had Rebecca Dolhansky send a crossing feed to the back post where it found the head of Cassidy McErlain who put it to the back of the net at the 85:36 mark. Daemen was unable to generate a scoring opportunity in the game's waning minutes, allowing WU to walk off with the win. Wilmington totaled 13 shots in the game (seven on goal), while the Wildcats had 12 (eight on goal). Tubo totaled seven saves to pick up her first of the season between the pipes. Flores' personal goalkeeping record dropped to 1-1 this season, despite her five saves. Daemen will be back in action this Saturday, September 8 when they open East Coast Conference play by hosting St. Thomas Aquinas College at Karrer Field for an 11 a.m. start.
