AMHERST, N.Y. - Katie Titus (Penfield, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 7-13. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

Titus, a 6-foot freshman forward, played a starring role in a pair of conference victories for the Wildcats last week. The Our Lady of Mercy product averaged 23.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game as the Wildcats knocked off Molloy College (65-42 on Jan. 11) and Queens College (54-51 on Jan. 13). The pair of victories pushed Daemen's overall record to 6-8, and their ECC mark to 3-2 this season.

Titus opened the week scoring a career-high 23 points in the win over Molloy. She played a season-high 34 minutes and added eight rebounds, two blocks and a steal. She also shot 10-for-20 from the field and 3-for-8 from three-point range. It marked her second game this season with multiple three-pointers.

Against Queens, Titus matched her career-high with 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting, helping Daemen outscore the Knights 30-18 in the paint. She also totaled 13 rebounds, marking her second double-double this season, as well as three steals and a block.

Titus is the first freshman to earn ECC Player of the Week honors this season, and the first Daemen player to do so since Sarah Saba last January. It's the second weekly accolade this season for Titus. She was previously named the ECC Defensive Player of the Week for Nov. 12-18 when she registered 12 defensive rebounds, three blocks and two steals in a come-from-behind victory over Mercyhurst University.

Titus has appeared in all 14 games this season and has made seven starts, including the last six games. She is averaging 7.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game, and ranks among the team's leaders in scoring (third), rebounding (first), field goals (second), steals (third) and blocks (second).

Daemen  rides its two-game winning streak into conference road games at Mercy College (Friday, Jan. 18) and the University of Bridgeport (Sunday, Jan. 20) this week.
