AMHERST, N.Y. - Katja Meyer (Verona, N.Y.) of the Daemen College women's track and field team has been named the East Coast Conference Field Athlete of the Week for competitions held January 14-20. The announcement came via the league's weekly sport report released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

Meyer, a 5-foot-10 sophomore jumper, placed third in the triple jump at last weekend's Houghton Invitational held at Houghton College. She jumped 10.58 meters, breaking her own school record in the event. The previous record of 10.57 meters was also by Meyer earlier this season at the Houghton December Classic.

Meyer becomes just the third Daemen athlete to garner a weekly award from the ECC during the indoor track and field season, and the first field athlete to do so. She joins past honorees Jordan Weir (Track Athlete of the Week: Feb. 4-10, 2013) and Mackenzie Donahue (Track Athlete of the Week: Feb. 1-7, 2016).

Meyer has had a dominant year for the Wildcats competing in the high jump, triple jump and long jump. In addition to the triple jump marks, Meyer previously broke the long jump record of 4.81, that she also held, with a jump of 4.93 at the RIT Invitational in Rochester, N.Y. on January 12.

Meyer and her teammates will return to action this weekend at the Brockport Multi and Invitational on Saturday, January 26 at 10:00 a.m.
