Wildcats Place Third, Take Home Nine Medals at ECC Outdoor Championships

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Daemen women's track and field team competed at the ECC Outdoor Championships on Thursday at Roberts Wesleyan. 

The Wildcats finished in third place out of eight teams with 98 points. The team has finished third in three of the previous four years. 

Daemen took home nine medals, including two gold, one silver, and six bronze. Skylar Savage (Attica, N.Y.) won the 400m hurdles, and Mia Wright took home gold in the 400m. Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) earned two bronze medals, coming in the 10,000m and 5,000m. Alana Cawthon led the throwers with a silver medal in the shot put. Julia Petry (Batavia, N.Y.)  finished one spot behind her. In the hammer throw, Kristen Oliver (Massena, N.Y.) earned bronze. Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) took third in the 110m hurdles, while D'Naesha Quicksey (Buffalo, N.Y.) earned a bronze medal in the discus.

Savage, Wright, and Cawthon garnered First Team All-ECC accolades for their first and second-place finishes. Oberholzer, Brassacchio, Schultz, Savage, Oliver, Petry, Quicksey, and Quinlan were also named Second Team All-ECC for their third and fourth-place performances. 

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Savage took first place in the 400m hurdles after posting a time of 1:05.47
  • Wright finished the 400m in 57.89 seconds to earn the freshman a gold medal and break the program record. Lia Brasacchio (Victor, N.Y.) finished fourth with a time of 1:06.55.
  • Schultz earned bronze in the 110m hurdles, finishing in 15.53 seconds, breaking the school record that she previously owned. Savage placed one spot behind her (16.42 seconds), and Abbie Herman (Hamburg, N.Y.) took 10th place (18.79 seconds).
  • In the throw pit, Cawthon took second in the shot put with a 10.37m launch. Finishing one spot behind her was Julia Petry with a 10.12m throw. Quicksey (10.10m) took fourth, Elizabeth Bentley (Belmont, N.Y.) (9.52m) was fifth with a PR toss, Carli Quinlan (Rochester, N.Y.) (9.35m) was sixth, and Kristen Oliver (Massena, N.Y.) (9.18m) placed eighth. 
  • Oliver continued her strong campaign with a third-place finish in the hammer, logging a 47.13m toss. Petry came in fifth (42.19m), Bentley was sixth (37.78), Cawthon was seventh with a PR throw (33.76m), and Quinlan placed 10th (28.24m)
  • Quicksey also finished third in the discus with a personal-best 32.03m toss. Quinlan's 31.26m throw was a personal best and placed her fourth, while Bentley finished 10th (24.54m). 
  • Oberholzer grabbed a bronze medal in the 10,000m, crossing the finish line in 38:41.79, ranking seventh in program history. Kylie Piekarski (Lancaster, N.Y.) placed fifth with a time of 40:38.23. 
  • Later, Oberholzer earned a third-place result in the 5,00m, logging a time of 18:37.15. 
  • The 4x800m team of Christa Oates (Tonawanda, N.Y.), Madeline Straub (Olean, N.Y.), Raegan Giardini (West Clarksville, N.Y.), and Brasacchio took third, posting a time of 10:21.83, ranking seventh in the program record book. 
  • Savage placed fifth in the long jump, breaking the program record with a 5.31m jump.
  • Gracie Conlan (Frewsburg, N.Y.) finished 10th in the long, leaping 4.84m. She also placed eighth in the triple jump with a 10.11m jump. Quicksey placed one spot behind her, leaping 10.06m.
