FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's tennis team fell to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the East Coast Conference following a 7-0 setback at Queens College here today. Queens, which was picked first in the ECC preseason poll, remained unbeaten on the year and improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the ECC.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The host Knights prevailed in all three doubles matches to earn the "doubles point". The outcome of doubles matches will award a single point to the team winning at least two of the three matchups, as opposed to awarding points for each individual doubles victory.
- DC's No. 1 doubles tandem of junior Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) and freshman Lena Gruber (Munich, Germany) fell to senior Luisa Auffarth and freshman Maja Makal, 6-2.
- DC fell by a similar score at No. 2 doubles, as QC's Marisa Ostoja and Aleksandra Caricic defeated Emily Clough (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Erica Jasinski (Fairview, Pa.). Queens posted a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
- Queens won all six singles matches in straight sets. Gruber suffered a 6-0, 6-1 setback to Auffarth—the ECC Preseason Player of the Year— at No. 1 singles, while Makal defeated Stasiuk 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Jasinski suffered a 6-1, 6-4 loss to Ostoja at No. 3 singles.
UP NEXT
The Wildcats close out the holiday weekend with two non-league matches in New England. They will play at Southern New Hampshire University Sunday (Oct. 13) and at Merrimack College Monday (Oct. 14).
