Nolet Leads Daemen To Third Place Finish At ECC Championship

Redshirt Sophomore Collects All-Conference Honors Following 13th Place Showing

EAST COAST CONFERENCE WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP - FULL RESULTS

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Redshirt sophomore  Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ont.) posted a top-15 finish to lead the Daemen College women's cross country team to a third-place showing at the 2019 East Coast Conference Cross Country Championship, held this morning on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College.

Roberts Wesleyan took top honors for the sixth-straight year after placing six runners among the top seven finishers. They were led by race winner Brittany Shumway who paced the field with a time of 19:28.85. The 5K race featured 77 total competitors. Daemen has now placed among the top four teams in every ECC Championship race since the Wildcats joined the league in 2013.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Nolet placed 13th overall with a time of 20:43.10 and has now been Daemen's top finisher in all five races this season. Her 13th place finish earned her second-team All-ECC honors. The top seven finishers earn first-team all-conference, while runners eight through 14 garner second-team honors. It marks the second-straight year Nolet has finished among the top-20 runners at the ECC Championship, as she placed 20th last year with a time of 20:49.6.
  • Sophomore Sarah Golas (Alden, N.Y) flirted with earning all-conference honors, as she placed 17th with a time of 21:13.65. It marks the second-straight year she has finished among the top-20 runners at the ECC Championship, as she placed 19th last year with a time of 20:43.1.
  • Juniors Taya Mucha (Lockport, N.Y.) and Savannah Warner (Elma, N.Y.) both finished among the top-25 runners. Mucha, who posted a personal-best time of 21:02.1 at the Canisius Alumni Classic last weekend, placed 21st with a time of 21:38.60. Warner placed 23rd with a time of 21:53.48 and has now finished among the top-five Daemen runners in each of her 19 career races. Junior Ashley Dusza (Alden, N.Y.) also figured in the scoring for the Wildcats today, as she placed fifth among Daemen runners and 35th overall with a time of 23:14.60. Dusza has finished among the top-five Daemen runners in her last 12 races. 
  • Senior Shania LiVecchi (West Seneca, N.Y.), junior Mackenzie Tubbs (Elmira, N.Y.), sophomore Mia Picciano (Auburn, N.Y.) and redshirt freshman Monahe Marchione (Buffalo, N.Y.) also competed for Daemen today. LiVecchi placed 38th (23:47.66), Tubbs finished 46th (24:34.87) and Picciano placed 56th (26:14.06). Marchione raced for the first time in her brief career and placed 75th (34:34.29).

UP NEXT
The Wildcats are idle until Nov. 9 when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to take part in the National Collegiate Athletic Conference (NCAA) Division II East Regional. The regional is being hosted by Jefferson University.
