Women's Soccer Moves Up In Regional Poll

Wildcats Are Regionally-Ranked For Second Straight Week, In At No. 9 This Week

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's soccer team moved up one spot to No. 9 in the latest United Soccer Coaches East Region poll which was released this afternoon. It's the second straight week that the Wildcats have been included in the poll. They made their first-ever appearance last week at No. 10.

Daemen's rise comes despite a loss in their only game last week, a 1-0 final against defending East Coast Conference and NCAA Division II national champion University of Bridgeport. The high-powered Purple Knights came into the contest leading the ECC in goals per game (3.88), but a stout defensive effort by the Wildcats limited them to just nine total shots and three shots on goal. The result lifted Bridgeport to 4-4-1 overall and vaulted the Purple Knights into the regional poll at No. 10 this week.

The loss Saturday snapped an eight-game unbeaten streak for the Wildcats which matched the longest in the program's 20-year history. A streak of that length had previously been accomplished during the 2011 season. The Wildcats currently stand at 6-1-2 overall and 1-1-1 in ECC play.

Daemen continues to lead all ECC teams in goal differential this season, outscoring opponents 28-6 thus far. The Wildcats also lead the league in goals against average (0.64), and rank second in goals per game (3.11).

Daemen returns to action with a pair of road games this week, first visiting Shepherd University (Wednesday, Oct. 9) for a non-conference friendly, followed by an ECC match at Queens College (Saturday, Oct. 12).
