Sischo Earns Second Straight National Player of the Week Accolade

11/20/2019 9:19:00 AM

AMHERST, N.Y. - For the second straight week, Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named Division II Men's Basketball National Player of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association for games played Nov. 11-17.

Sischo averaged 25.5 points and 14.5 rebounds while shooting 80 percent (20-for-25) from the field in wins over Mercyhurst University (67-65) and nationally-ranked West Liberty University (98-83). He notched 22 points and 11 boards in the defeat of Mercyhurst, the defending Atlantic Region champions, last Thursday night. He followed up with another dominant effort against the Hilltoppers, then-ranked in the top-five of both Division II national polls, on Saturday afternoon. The redshirt-junior center canned 12 of his 13 field goal attempts and finished with 29 points, 18 rebounds and three blocks to help Daemen deliver West Liberty's most lopsided loss since March 10, 2018.

Sischo, the 2018-19 East Coast Conference Player of the Year, has already garnered much attention this season. In addition to his two National Player of the Week honors, he's been named the ECC Preseason Player of the Year and has been a two-time ECC Player of the Week, and a one-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week. He's also been named to the all-tournament team at the Small College Basketball National Hall of Fame Classic and the MVP of the ECC-CACC Challenge. Last week, Sischo became the third Daemen player to garner National Player of the Week honors, and he's now the program's first two-time recipient.

Sischo added 27 points and 11 boards - his seventh double-double in as many games this season - in an 89-79 win over Le Moyne College last evening. The result pushed Daemen's record to 6-1 this season. The Wildcats have won six straight games, 13 straight home games and 14 straight non-confererence home games.

Through seven games, Sischo is averaging 25.4 points, 14.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.0 blocks per game, and shooting 71 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range. He leads the country in double-doubles and rebounding, and ranks 19th in both scoring and field goal percentage.

Sischo will lead the nationally-ranked Wildcats (No. 17 NABC, No. 10 D2SIDA) back into action this Saturday, Nov. 23 with their first-ever game at KeyBank Center in downtown Buffalo. Daemen will welcome Wilmington University to the downtown venue that has hosted men's NCAA tournament games (Division I) six times since its opening in 1996. The Daemen-Wilmington game (noon tip-off) will be followed by area Division I teams from Canisius College and St. Bonaventure University who take the floor at 2:30. Tickets remain on sale for the doubleheader at daemenwildcats.com/keybanktix (use password "WILDCATS").
