Wildcats Pounce On Wilmington Early, Roll To Fifth-Straight Win

Heinold Drills Seven Three-Pointers and Finishes With A Career-High 25 Points

WILMINGTON, Del. - Senior Jordan Heinold (Hamburg, N.Y.) equaled her career-high for three-pointers in a game (7) and scored a career-high 25 points to lead Daemen College to an 83-51 victory over Wilmington University here today in non-conference women's basketball action. Daemen ran its winning streak to five-straight games and improved to 5-1 on the year. Wilmington, a member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CAAC), remained winless (0-6) on the year.

Daemen, which entered the game ranked ninth in the NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region media poll, is off to its best start since transitioning to NCAA Division II in 2013-14. The 5-1 start is Daemen's best start overall since the 2012-13 season when the Wildcats opened the year with six-straight wins.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Daemen wasted no time in taking control of the game, as it jumped out to a 13-2 lead four minutes into the game and later took a 19-6 lead following a jumper by red-shirt junior Tiara Filbert (Batavia, N.Y.) with 2:43 left in the first quarter.
  • Daemen took a 21-9 lead into the second quarter and outscored Wilmington 15-4 over the first five minutes of the quarter. A steal by junior Caroline White (Fairport, N.Y.) and layup by classmate Autumn Buchsenschutz (Port Allegany, Pa.) capped the run and gave Daemen a 36-13 lead.
  • Daemen took a 43-22 lead into halftime and put the game out of reach by outscoring Wilmington 29-14 in the third quarter. Daemen closed out the quarter with a 12-0 run over the final 2:26 of the frame.
  • The lead ballooned to 40 points, 76-36, at the 8:27 mark of the fourth quarter and Wilmington came no closer than 34 points down the stretch.
  • Heinold connected on 7-of-9 from three-point land and made 9-of-12 shots overall. Sophomore Katie Titus (Penfield, N.Y.) made 8-of-11 shots and totaled 20 points and six rebounds in just 21 minutes of action. It marks the second time this season and the ninth time in her career she has scored 20 or more points. White added 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. White, who also scored 18 points in a win over regionally-ranked Edinboro University earlier this week, has averaged 15.2 points over the past four games.
  • Filbert chipped in nine points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals, while Buchsenschutz added four points, three rebounds, five assists and two steals.
  • Freshman Lexie Hultman (Lake Forest, Minn.) saw her first action of the year for Daemen and scored her first two career points.

  • Daemen shot a season-high 53-percent (32-for-60) from the field overall and made 13-of-28 from downtown. Wilmington made just 2-of-9 shots in the first quarter and finished 18-of-45 (40%) from the field overall. The hosts attempted just eight three-pointers and made three.
  • Turnovers were a big part of the game, as Daemen forced 24 Wilmington turnovers which led to a 25-9 edge in points off turnovers for Daemen.
  • Daemen also finished with a slim advantage in second chance points (8-7) and points in the paint (26-20).
