Boyar Sets Career Goals Record In Regular-Season Finale Win Over STAC

Daemen Posts Most Wins In A Season Since 2012

SPARKILL, N.Y. - Daemen College got two first-half goals from senior Jamie Boyar (Williamsville, N.Y.) en route to a 2-1 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College here today in East Coast Conference women's soccer action. It marked the regular-season finale for both teams. Daemen moved to 11-3-3 overall and 4-2-2 in the ECC. STAC dropped to 2-13-2 overall a 1-5-2 in the league.

Daemen entered the day in fifth place in the ECC standings, one point back of fourth-place Molloy. The top four teams in the final conference standings will advance to the ECC Championships. The Wildcats needed a win today and a Molloy loss or tie at Queens to clinch a spot in the tournament. Molloy posted a 2-1 win over Queens today. Daemen can still earn a spot in the tournament if Lincoln University upsets nationally-ranked Mercy College tomorrow (Nov. 10). Daemen made its first ever appearance in the ECC Tournament last fall.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Boyar entered the game needing two goals to break the program record for most career goals. She wasted no time tying the record of 54—set by Kim Walker from 2003-06—as she scored just 4:21 into the game off a feed from fellow senior Lindsay Ciaramella (St. George, Ont.). It marked the team-leading eighth assist of the year for Ciaramella.
  • The Wildcats maintained their one-goal lead until the 28th minute when Boyar broke the record. Ciaramella again created the scoring chance. Her shot from 30 yards out was stopped by STAC net minder Colleen Stevens, but she could not maintain control of the ball. Boyar charged the net and one-timed the rebound past Stevens for her 18th goal of the year.
  • STAC cut the lead in half with just 4:19 left before halftime following a goal by senior midfielder Victoria DiMarco.
  • The Daemen defense limited STAC to just two total shots and no shots on goal during the second half to secure the win.
  • Daemen finished with an 11-9 advantage in total shots and an 8-6 edge in shots on goal.
  • Junior Maddie Flores (Seattle, Wash.) and went the distance in net for Daemen and made five saves.

GAME NOTES

  • The Wildcats have posted 11 wins in a season for the first time since 2012 when they finished 11-9-0.
  • Daemen is now 14-0 over the past four years when Boyar scores two or more goals.
  • Boyar has now scored at least one goal in 12 of Daemen's 17 games this year. She now owns the school-record for most goals in a season (20), which she set last year, and most career goals (55).
  • Flores improved to 9-3-3 on the year. She has posted a new career-high for wins in a season and her six solo shutouts are the most by a Daemen net minder since Kayla Hampton posted six during the 2012 season.
