Daemen Student-Athletes Spread Holiday Cheer Through Adopt An Angel Program

AMHERST, N.Y. - For the second straight holiday season, the Daemen College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has led a coordinated effort for the college's 17 intercollegiate athletic teams to participate in an Adopt An Angel program this holiday season. Daemen teams have "adopted" 10 children through a collaboration with Baker Victory Preventive Services, and will provide holiday gifts to each of them.

Baker Victory Preventive Services is an organization that works with families that have been referred through Erie County Children and Family Services, Children's Services or Child Protection Services. Efforts from Daemen's student-athletes are in support of the mission of Baker Victory Preventive Services which is to preserve the family unit, avoiding placement of a child outside of their home.

The Daemen SAAC is a group of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience and to help drive the community outreach efforts of Daemen Athletics.

"The holiday season is supposed to be as much about giving as it receiving. I am proud of our student-athletes who have come together to provide some joy to those who may be less fortunate. The effort is in direct correlation with the goal of Daemen Athletics to develop well-rounded student-athletes who will eventually become the community leaders of tomorrow," said Hailey Dietrich, student-athlete success and community engagement coordinator at Daemen.

Daemen College features the only NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 17 intercollegiate teams.
