Sischo Is ECC Player of the Week For Fifth Time This Season 2/18/2019 4:55:00 PM By: By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications AMHERST, N.Y. - Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the garnered East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Feb. 11-17. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y., and it marks the fifth time this season that Sischo has earned the accolade. Sischo, a 6-foot-9 redshirt sophomore center, helped Daemen go 2-0 last week by averaging 21.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 67-percent from the field (18-for-27). Daemen's wins came over Long Island University Post (108-63) and New York Institute of Technology (87-72) as the Wildcats (21-3, 13-1 ECC) maintained their grip on first place in the ECC standings. The Wildcats have already clinched a berth in the upcoming ECC Championship tournament, and the pair of wins moved them closer to locking up a first-round bye. Sischo notched 16 points, eight rebounds and two blocks while playing just 21 minutes in Friday's rout of LIU Post. He followed up with 27 points and 12 rebounds - his 14th double-double of the season - in Sunday's defeat of NYIT. It marked Sischo's 13th 20-point game of the season, and the 20th of his career. Today's award announcement is just another in a big collection for Sischo. The Daemen big man has collected some kind of ECC weekly recognition 15 times over the last two seasons. Just this season alone, he had previously been named the ECC Player of the Week for Nov. 5-11, Nov. 19-25, Dec. 3-9 and Feb. 4-10, and he was also selected as the ECC Defensive Player of the Week for Dec. 31-Jan. 6. Sischo was also voted the league's Preseason Player of the Year, and was recently named to the Bevo Francis Award Top 50 Watch List. Sischo is averaging team-highs of 22.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game this season, ranking second among the ECC leaders in both. In 52 career games, he's totaled 951 points, 489 rebounds and 22 double-doubles. Sischo will lead Daemen into a weekend road trip that includes ECC games at Saint Thomas Aquinas College (Friday, Feb. 22) and the University of the District of Columbia (Sunday, Feb. 24). The Wildcats have won 14 consecutive ECC road games, and they stand just one win shy of locking up a two-two seed for the conference tournament.
