Wildcat Pole Vaulters Headline All-Conference Honorees

3/1/2019 10:46:00 AM

AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College women's track and field athletes Taylor Haude (Rochester, N.Y.) and Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y.) have each been named to the All-East Coast Conference First Team, and Katja Meyer (Verona, N.Y.), Hannah Miller (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) and Savannah Warner (Elma, N.Y.) have been named to the All-East Coast Conference Second Team. The announcement of all-conference teams was made this morning in a press release from conference headquarters in West Bablyon, N.Y. The All-ECC teams were decided based on individual performances at the ECC Indoor Track and Field Championship which was held Feb. 16 in Staten Island. The top two finishers in each event were named First Team All-Conference, while the third and fourth place finishers earned Second Team All-Conference distinction.

Haude and Kress headline the Wildcats' All-Conference honorees after placing first and second respectively in the pole vault competition. Haude cleared 3.20 meters, finishing just shy of her school-record vault of 3.26 meters which she set at last year's indoor conference championship meet. Kress cleared 3.05 meters to finish at the runner-up. It marked the third straight year that Daemen has claimed the ECC pole vault crown. Kress was the event champion during the 2016-17 season, and Haude followed suit last season. Kress has now earned First Team All-ECC honors for the pole vault in three successive seasons, while Haude has garnered First Team All-ECC honors twice, in addition to being a Second Team All-ECC performer as a freshman.

Daemen's strong showing in field events continued with Meyer and Miller. Meyer competed in multiple events and earned the second All-Conference nod of her career in the triple jump. She placed third with a leap of 10.56 meters, narrowly missing her own school record (10.57 meters) which she set earlier this season. Meyer had previously earned First Team All-ECC honors during the 2018 outdoor season after claiming the triple jump crown. Miller, who earned Second Team All-ECC honors in both discus and hammer during the outdoor season last spring, claimed her first All-ECC nod for indoor competition after placing fourth in the shot put with a throw of 10.35 meters.

Daemen's five All-Conference athletes helped the Wildcats place sixth out of the 11 competing teams at the ECC Championship.

In addition to announcing all-conference teams, the ECC also named Alexandria Okon as the ECC Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, and Georgian Court University's Aretha Edwards as the Most Outstanding Athlete of the ECC Championship. Mike Murawski of Georgian Court was named the ECC Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year.
