SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - Th Daemen women's tennis team fell in its final match in California today against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds by a match score of 7-0. The non conference matchup took place at the Barnes Tennis Center.
The win moves the Wildcats to 1-17 on the season and the Thunderbirds move to 7-5. Southern Utah University is a Division I team and a member of the Big Sky Conference stretching across the Rocky Mountains.Â
The Thunderbirds received its first point of the seven with a win in all three doubles matches in straight sets. In the new scoring rules for the season, the winner of two out the three doubles matches will win a single point followed by receiving a point for each win in a singles match.
The top seeded duo of Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) and Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) fell to senior Charity Sagiao and Zoe Tanti by a score of 6-0 in both sets. Courtney Otis (Marcellus, N.Y.) and Sarah Kenny (Perth, Australia) lost in the second doubles slot to sophomore Daniela Cozzi and senior Ghita Nassik with a score of 6-0 in both sets as well.
The Wildcats six singles players fell straight sets to the Thunderbirds.
Daemen returns to action on Sunday, March 24 at 1 p.m. against Thiel College in Greenville, Pa.
