Sischo Named East Region Player of the Year Redshirt Sophomore Has Led Wildcats To First-Ever NCAA Tournament Appearance 3/15/2019 11:09:00 AM By: By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College redshirt sophomore center Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) has been named the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association East Region Player of the Year, as well as to the All-East Region first-team. The official announcement of the D2CCA All-Region teams was made this morning in a press release. The East Region is comprised of teams from the East Coast Conference, Northeast-10 Conference and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Sischo, a 6-foot-9 redshirt sophomore center, adds another trophy for the mantle after garnering East Coast Conference Player of the Year and first-team All-ECC honors just last week. Much was expected of the Daemen big man after he was named the ECC Preseason Player of the Year back in October, and he hasn't disappointed the Wildcat faithful. Sischo has appeared in 27 games this season, and leads the team in scoring (21.0 ppg), rebounding (10.3 rpg) and field goal percentage (.585). He presently ranks seventh in scoring, third in rebounding and made field goals, and sixth in field goal percentage among the regional leaders. Sischo's 17 double-doubles this season are the most for a Daemen player since Gerald Beverly's 19 during the 2014-15 campaign, and they rank sixth among the national leaders. Sischo also ranks 31st in scoring, 21st in field goal percentage and 15th in rebounding among the NCAA Division II leaders. He's the first Daemen player to garner All-East Region honors since Torrence Dyck's second-team selection in 2016. Sischo is Daemen's first first-team honoree since Beverly a year earlier. Sischo has been a five-time ECC Player of the Week selection, and a one-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week honoree this season. He recently became just the 10th player in team history surpass 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in a career, needing only 56 games to do so. He's the first Daemen player with more than 250 rebounds in consecutive seasons since Beverly in 2013-14 and 2014-15, and he stands just two points shy of breaking Rob Robinson's program record for total points by sophomore. Sischo has been the primary cog in leading Daemen to a 24-5 record and the program's second ECC regular season title. He'll be front and center again Saturday night when leading the Wildcats into their first-ever NCAA tournament game. The fifth-seeded Wildcats take on fourth-seeded University of New Haven in the opening round of the East Regional portion of the 2019 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship with game time set for 7:30 p.m. at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium on the campus of Saint Asnelm College in Manchester, N.H. Sischo was joined on the All-East Region first-team by senior guards Tim Guers (Saint Anselm) and Ryan Richmond (Bentley University), senior forward Kavione Green (Bloomfield College) and junior guard Juvaris Hayes (Merrimack College). The All-East Region second-team selections include senior guards Daquaise Andrews (Southern New Hampshire University), Curtis Jenkins (Molloy College), Isaiah McLeod (Southern Connecticut State University) and Corey Taite (Goldey-Beacom College), and redshirt junior guard Jermaine Head (Wilmington University).
