OSWEGO, N.Y.. - The Daemen College women's tennis team scored an 8-1 win over Oswego State University in a non-conference match here today. Daemen ran its winning streak to four-straight matches and improved to 5-17 on the year. Oswego, a NCAA Division III member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), dropped to 4-9.
Points were awarded to each of the doubles winners today in a scoring format used by Division III teams. Daemen came out on top in all three of the double matches.
DC's top pair of Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) and Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) earned an 8-3 win over OSU's Lorrayne Broach and Eliza Johnson. The remaining two doubles matches were much more competitive. Sarah Kenny (Perth, Australia) and Courtney Otis (Marcellus, N.Y.) outlasted Haru Kobayashi and Bridget Bender at No. 2 doubles, 8-7, while Andrea D'Sa (Bellmore, N.Y.) and Alliya Foster (Bronx, N.Y.) posted an 8-6 win over Lydia Houser and Alesha Pilon at the third spot.
Daemen secured the win after Stasiuk and Robins posted straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Stasiuk earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Bender, while Robins downed Broach, 6-4, 6-2. Stasiuk, who set the team record for singles wins in a season (18) last year, now has a team-high 10 singles wins this season and has become just the fourth player in team history to record back-to-back seasons of 10 or more singles wins. Tonight's win also moved her into fourth place in career wins (28). Robins' singles win today was the 41st of her career and her appearance in singles play today was the 100th of her career, leaving her one shy of tying the school record for most singles matches (101) set by Hayle Scanlan from 2013-17.
Kenny, Otis and D'Sa also picked up wins during singles play. Kenny picked up her second-straight win following a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kobayashi at No. 3 singles. Otis won for the third time over the past four matches following a 6-2, 6-0 win over Johnson at No. 4 singles. D'Sa picked up her third-straight win following a 6-0, 7-5 effort over Pilon at No. 5 singles. OSU picked up its lone points at No. 6 singles, as Houser posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ailish McDevitt (Jamesville, N.Y.).
Daemen returns to action Thursday (April 18) with a non-conference match at Alfred University.
