ALFRED, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's tennis team increased its win streak to five matches in a 6-3 non-conference win over Alfred State today. Daemen moves to 6-17 on the season. Alfred State, a Division III member of the Empire 8 Conference, fell to 7-7.
Points were awarded to each of the doubles winners today in a scoring format used by Division III teams. Daemen came out on top two of the three doubles matches.Â
Senior Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) joined former teammate Hayle Scanlan '17 as the only other player in team history with 100 starts in both singles and doubles play while also tying Scanlan's record for most singles appearances at 101. Robins' 42nd career win in singles play also puts her one win away from tying Gretchen Ringler '18 for the second most singles wins in team history.
The Wildcats's top pair of Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) and Robins completed an 8-4 victory over the Saxon's top seeded Lauren Boshart and Inda Gillett. Courtney Otis (Marcellus, N.Y.) and Sarah Kenny (Perth, Australia) then completed an 8-3 win over Miranda Sakala and Nurila Kambar. Alliya Foster (Bronx, N.Y.) and Andrea D'Sa fell 8-5 in doubles play.
Daemen secured the win after Stasiuk, Robins and Kenny all won in straight sets in singles play. The top seeded Stasiuk won 6-0, 6-0 over Gillett. Robins defeated Boshart 6-0, 6-3 and Kenny defeated Sakala 6-2, 6-2 for her third straight win. Otis also defeated Kambar 6-3, 6-2. The Wildcats fell in the final two singles matches.
The Wildcats will play its final match of the season at Niagara University on Tuesday, April 23 beginning at 3 p.m.
