Grandits Named To NABC 30 Under 30 Team

AMHERST, N.Y. - Ryan Grandits, assistant men's basketball coach at Daemen College, has been named to the 2019 Under Armour National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 30-Under-30 Team, representing 30 of the most outstanding men's college basketball coaches under the age of 30. Grandits recently completed his third season on the staff of head coach Mike MacDonald, helping the Wildcats to a 24-6 overall record, the East Coast Conference regular season championship, and the program's first-ever NCAA Division II tournament berth.

"I am very excited to see Ryan recognized by the NABC for his great work with our program," said MacDonald. "Nobody deserves this recognition more. He is a tireless worker and someone who is committed to the development of our student-athletes. Ryan is an important member of our team and one of the big reasons for our success the last couple of years."

A native of nearby Kenmore, N.Y., and a graduate of Kenmore West High School, Grandits served one season as a graduate assistant coach before being elevated to the team's lead assistant role, filling the spot vacated by former associate head coach Mike Berkun who left in 2017 to accept the head coaching position at the State University of New York Maritime College. In his assistant coaching role, Grandits is involved with all aspects of the program, including on-floor coaching, recruiting of qualified student-athletes and scouting of opponents. In his three seasons on Daemen's bench, Grandits has helped the Wildcats achieve an overall record of 65-23 and an East Coast Conference mark of 43-11.

Grandits is no stranger to MacDonald-led basketball clubs. He played three seasons at the NCAA Division III level for Medaille College, the first two with MacDonald as the team's bench boss. After graduating from Medaille in 2015, he used his final year of eligibility to play as a graduate transfer, reuniting with MacDonald at Daemen. In the 2015-16 season, Grandits appeared in 27 games and made 12 starts for the Wildcats, averaging 7.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
