Wildcats Pick Up Third Consecutive Win

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. - Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.), Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y.), Courtney Otis (Marcellus, N.Y.) and Andrea D'Sa (Bellmore, N.Y.) all earned points in both singles and doubles play to lead the Daemen College women's tennis team to a 7-2 win over Elmira College in a non-conference meeting today. Daemen has now won three consecutive matches, improving to 4-17 this season. Elmira, which competes as a member of NCAA Division III and the Empire 8 Conference, dropped to 1-12.

A shakeup in the lineup ordered by head coach Kerry McDermott put Stasiuk and Otis together in the No. 1 doubles position for the first time. They responded with an 8-1 victory over Elmira's top pair of Cassie Brown and Katy Jewett. The Wildcats also got a point from the No. 2 doubles position as Robins and D'Sa also paired together for the first time. They took down Sarah Hill and Cheyanne Holwell 8-1.

EC's Brandi Meeder and Marta Kliszcz helped the Eagles avoid the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win in the No. 3 position.

In singles play, Robins and Stasiuk opened things up by cruising to wins in the No. 2 and No. 1 positions, respectively. Robins was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Jewett, Elmira's leader in singles wins this season. Stasiuk ousted Hill in similar fashion, winning 6-1, 6-1.

Daemen's fifth point of the match, which clinched the overall victory, came on the No. 4 singles court as sophomore Alliya Foster (Bronx, N.Y.) earned the first win of her career. She downed Holwell 6-2, 6-4.

Otis (6-1, 6-1) and D'Sa (6-2, 6-3) added points in the No. 3 and No. 6 singles positions, respectively, to help Daemen run away with things.

Robins' singles win this evening was the 40th of her career. She becomes just the third player in team history to reach that total. Robins also ranks third in team history with 68 combined singles/doubles wins, and her appearance in singles play today was the 99th of her career, moving her into second all-time.

Stasiuk's pair of wins also moved her up Daemen's all-time lists. Her 27th career singles win tonight moved her into a tie with Karli Hollins and Shaylah Iverson for fourth in team history. Her 16th career doubles win tonight moved her into sole possession of sixth place in team history, snapping a tie with Aman Shamaa. Stasiuk, who set the team record for singles wins in a season (18) last year, now has a team-high nine singles wins this season, moving her one step closer to becoming just the fourth player in team history to record back-to-back seasons of 10 or more singles wins.

Daemen returns to action Monday, April 15 when they visit Oswego State.
