Albano, Roehling Receive New Administrative Titles

AMHERST, N.Y. - Stephanie Albano and Karen Roehling, both veteran employees of the Daemen College athletic department, will assume new administrative roles beginning August 1, director of athletics Traci Murphy announced today. Albano has been named the assistant athletics director for administration, and Roehling will take on the designation of senior woman administrator. Both Albano and Roehling will hold seats on the department's senior leadership team.

Albano, whose tenure at Daemen began in 2015, had served as the senior woman administrator since March of 2016. In her new role, Albano will serve as the department liaison to various campus committees, coordinate department policies and procedures, create and execute leadership development programming for student-athletes and athletics department staff, and coordinate workshops for sexual violence prevention as well as diversity and inclusion training.

Albano's administrative focus comes in addition to her role as head women's volleyball coach. She was promoted to that post prior to the 2016-17 academic year, and has taken the Wildcats to a pair of NCAA tournaments while posting a 57-35 overall record.

"We are a small department and we each wear many hats. Coach Albano has continuously demonstrated her ability to balance the rigors of leading one of our most successful programs with the administrative side of intercollegiate athletics. Her experience and skill set have been invaluable to our leadership team, and I want to thank her for everything she's done as our senior woman administrator. I believe this new role will maximize her strengths and passion for developing our student-athletes, coaches and staff," said Murphy.

As senior woman administrator, Roehling will help to ensure gender equity among Daemen's intercollegiate athletic programs, while also providing leadership for both men's and women's student-athletes. She will enhance the decision making process across the intercollegiate athletics program, and advocate for the increased visibility of female role models in athletics leadership, and provide a diverse point of contact for student-athletes and staff to bring concerns.

In addition to her added administrative responsibilities, Roehling will continue in her primary role as an assistant athletic trainer, a post she's held since 2010 in which she provides both injury prevention and rehabilitation services to student-athletes.

"Karen's experience will give her an important voice on our leadership team," said Murphy. "A priority of our department is providing the support our student-athletes need to be successful in the classroom and competing in their chosen sport. As an assistant athletic trainer, Karen works very closely with student-athletes and coaches, and her insight is needed to ensure that we are meeting their needs, from both a physical and mental standpoint. Her interaction with student-athletes provides her the knowledge base that will engage her in leadership team discussions and decision making. I am excited to see Karen fulfill this important role within our department."

In addition to Murphy, Albano and Roehling, the athletic department leadership team includes Mike MacDonald (senior associate athletics director for external relations), Mike Miranto (senior associate athletics director for external operations and communications), Jeff Sage (assistant athletics director for sports medicine and performance), Jenepher Banker (assistant athletics director for operations) and Steven Chasey (assistant athletics director for compliance). The athletics leadership team is charged with setting the vision for the department, implementing and executing strategic planning goals and overseeing the experience of Daemen's growing number of student-athletes.
