Wildcats Fall To Regionally-Ranked Dolphins

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's soccer team suffered a 7-1 loss to regionally-ranked Le Moyne College here today in a non-conference match. Daemen dropped to 0-4-0 on the year, while the visiting Dolphins remained unbeaten at 4-0-0. Le Moyne, which has advanced to the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament three of the last four years, took control with three unanswered goals in the span of 4:53 midway through the first half.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Le Moyne opened the scoring in the 16th minute when junior midfielder Robert Rohrhirsch scored off a feed from sophomore midfielder Noah Moothedan. 
  • Rohrhirsch completed the natural "hat trick" with goals in the 18th and 21st minute to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. It marked the first career hat trick for Rohrhirsch.
  • Daemen made it 3-1 with just 3:06 left before halftime when sophomore Derek Mancuso (Friendship, N.Y.) scored off a pass from redshirt sophomore Ben Christidis (Fairport, N.Y.). It marked the first career goal for Mancuso and the first career assist for Christidis.
  • The Dolphins scored four times in the span of seven minutes early in the second half to secure the win.
  • Le Moyne posted a 19-0 edge in shots in the second half and finished with a 29-4 advantage overall.

GAME NOTES

  • Daemen returns 11 players from last years team that finished 5-12-0 overall and 3-6-0 in the East Coast Conference. The Wildcats were picked eighth in the ECC preseason poll.
  • Le Moyne posted a 13-4-1 overall record last year and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four years. The Dolphins were picked third in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason poll and are ranked fourth in the latest United Soccer Coaches East Region poll.
  • Daemen remained winless in the all-time series with Le Moyne. The Dolphins have prevailed in all eight meetings between the two schools.
  • Daemen returns to action Saturday (Sept. 21) when it opens East Coast Conference play at New York Institute of Technology.
