Wildcats & Senators Filibuster To 2-2 Draw

Daemen Unbeaten Streak Reaches Seven Games, Second-Longest Streak In Program History

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's soccer team scored a pair of first-half goals en route to a 2-2 tie in a non-conference contest against Davis & Elkins College at Karrer Field today. It marked Daemen's second straight tie as they ran their record to 5-0-2 this season. The seven-game unbeaten streak matches the second-longest such streak in program history. The visiting Senators moved to 2-2-1 on the season.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Daemen capitalized on a 12-7 advantage in first-half shot attempts with goals from Jamie Boyar (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Erin Egan (Williamsville, N.Y.)
  • Boyar put the Wildcats on the board at the 15:50 mark when she one-timed Egan's crossing feed from the middle of the box. It marked Boyar's 11th goal of the season, pulling her into a tie with Anniina Sankoh of Lynn University for the national goal-scoring lead (Lynn plays later today).
  • Later in the half, it was Egan who found herself in the middle of box fielding a crossing feed from Katja Meyer (Verona, N.Y.). Egan touched the ball past D&E goalkeeper Sierra Curtis at the 21:03 mark.
  • The Senators cut the deficit in half when Asheli Freed pounced on her own rebound to score at the 53:29 mark. Freed's initial attempt on a penalty kick was turned away by Daemen goalkeeper Maddie Flores (Seattle, Wash.), but the Senator senior won the race to the carom and tapped it over the goal line.
  • D&E got the equalizer at the 67:23 mark as Nariana Nealy scored off a pass from Angelina Horan.
  • The Senators were dangerous on corner kick opportunities throughout the game, and nearly went ahead with under four minutes remaining in regulation. A Daemen defender came negated Nealy's touch on a corner kick scramble to keep the game knotted at 2-2. D&E generated 11 corner kicks in the game.
  • Daemen generated four of the first five shot attempts in overtime before D&E made a late push. Flores came up with two of her season-high nine saves in the final two minutes of overtime to preserve the draw
  • Davis & Elkins held a slim 26-25 edge in total shot attempts, and placed 12 shots on frame compared to Daemen's seven.

HEAD COACH DAN DOLAN POST-GAME COMMENTS
"I think it's not for lack of chances, at least today. It's just getting our spirits back up. You know, we had a five-game winning streak, and now with two ties, it's just making sure we're back on track with our thoughts. We don't have anything to really worry about. It's just getting their confidence back up and playing. I'm not worried. We've got a big game against Mercy at home. We'll be ready, we'll show up.

GAME NOTES

  • Today's result coupled with Saturday's 1-1 tie at New York Tech mark the first back-to-back ties in the 20-year history of the program. It marks just the fifth season in program history with multiple ties, and the first since 2016.
  • The last seven-game unbeaten streak in Daemen's history came in a stretch of games spanning the 2012 and 2013 seasons; the Wildcats won their final five games in 2012, and their first two of 2013. The longest unbeaten streak in program history happened in 2011 when they rattled off eight straight wins.
  • Daemen is also unbeaten now in nine straight home games, posting a 7-0-2 record at Karrer Field in that span. The Wildcats are 13-5-3 at home since the start of the 2017 season.
  • Boyar's goal was the 48th of her career, and it increased her career point total to 107. She now stands alone at number two in program history for career points. Boyar entered the game tied for second with Samantha Engel.
  • Boyar has scored in six of Daemen's seven games this season; Daemen is 5-0-1 this season and 22-5-2 in her career when she scores.
  • Egan, who is playing her first season of collegiate soccer after completing a four-year career with the Daemen women's basketball team last winter, has now scored in two of the last three games. She has totaled two goals, four assists and eight points through the first seven games of her soccer career.
  • Flores, the reigning East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, is now 4-0-2 between the pipes this season. Her performance today marked her second with nine saves this season (also vs. Urbana on Sept. 6). Flores has made eight or more saves in four games this season.
