1/22/2020 12:23:00 PM

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Fall 2019 semester was another successful one in terms of academic performance for Daemen College student-athletes. The group, consisting of more than 200 individuals, achieved a collective grade-point average (GPA) of 3.11 marking the 13th consecutive semester at 3.0 or higher. The performance was up slightly from the collective 3.09 GPA during the Spring 2019 semester.

Daemen, which sponsors 17 intercollegiate athletic programs, saw 136 student-athletes individually achieve a GPA of 3.0 or higher. That represents 59 percent of Daemen's total student-athlete body. In addition, 64 student-athletes (28% of total) achieved a semester GPA of 3.50 or higher, and six had a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester. At the conclusion of the Fall 2019 semester, 141 student-athletes (61% of total) now hold a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Breaking down the numbers even further, 11 teams achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The highest achieving teams included men's tennis and women's triathlon, both at 3.51. Other teams that went above 3.00 for the semester include: women's cross country (3.35), women's bowling (3.33), men's cross country (3.20), women's track and field (3.17), men's volleyball (3.16), women's soccer (3.12), women's basketball (3.12), women's volleyball (3.08) and women's tennis (3.04).

"I am very proud of the effort that our student-athletes continue to put towards their academic pursuits, and the results that they are achieving," said Director of Athletics Traci Murphy. "We ask a lot of our student-athletes. From academic and athletic commitments, to engaging in meaningful community service initiatives, it's by no means easy on any of them. It is certainly a credit for how much emphasis our student-athletes place on balancing their daily responsibilities, and also to our coaches who remain committed to recruiting individuals that embrace all that comes with being a Division II student-athlete here at Daemen College."
