Wildcats Resume Season With Sweep Of D'Youville

1/29/2020 9:49:00 PM

LANCASTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's bowling team got their 2019-20 season resumed in successful fashion this evening by sweeping a pair of matches against crosstown rival D'Youville College at Lancaster Lanes, and made some history along the way.

Four Wildcat keglers topped the 200-pin mark as Daemen cruised to a 1,046-796 win in traditional team match. Freshman Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.) led the way by rolling a 229, and teammates Katlyn Newberry (Rochester, N.Y.), Adrianna Pencek (Dunkirk, N.Y.) and Alex Hasiotis (Rochester, N.Y.) chipped in with rounds of 208, 206 and 205 respectively. Freshman Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) narrowly missed her own 200 game, rolling a 198.

It marked the first time in the five-year history of the program that the Wildcats had topped the 1,000-pin mark in a traditional match. The previous single-match record for total pinfall was 992, achieved on February 24, 2018 in a win over Medaille College at the Molloy Lion Invitational. The Wildcats' previous high for total pinfall this season came in a 962-864 win over Roberts Wesleyan College on December 6.

The second match tonight was much tighter, but the Wildcats managed a 786-766 win in a Baker format total pinfall contest.

Tonight's matches marked Daemen's first action since the December 6 matches against Roberts Wesleyan. They've now won five-straight and six of their last seven matches, improving to 32-26 overall this season. The Wildcats stand just three wins shy of the program record set during the 2017-18 season when they finished 35-17.

Daemen will return to tournament play at the Wildcat Classic hosted by Bethune-Cookman University in Orlando, Florida from February 7-9.
