Men's Volleyball Rallies Past Brock In Exhibition Play 1/9/2020 10:55:00 PM ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Although it won't go down as an official "W" in the win column, the Daemen College men's volleyball showed some poise in rallying past Brock University 3-2 in exhibition action tonight at Bob Davis Gymnasium. Daemen, which is at the outset of just the second season in program history, fell behind 2-0 to the host Badgers (15-25, 23-25), but managed to win three-straight sets (25-21, 25-21, 15-11) to grab the victory. The Wildcats saw 11 different players record kills in the match, led by freshman outside hitter Zach Schneider (Lockport, N.Y.) who powered down a match-high 16 while attacking at a .353 clip. Classmate Ryan Parker (Fairport, N.Y.) added 11 kills on just 19 attempts (.363 hitting percentage), and Daemen out-performed the Badgers from an efficiency standpoint, hitting .229 in the match compared the hosts' .196. Freshman setter Gavin Musielak (Eden, N.Y.) was the only Daemen player to appear in all five sets, and totaled a match-high 33 assists. Logan House paced the Badgers with 10 kills, and Marcelo Correa notched 24 assists. After surrendering 11 kills and a .429 percentage to the Badgers in the opening set, Daemen held the hosts to 30 kills and a .130 hitting percentage in the final four sets. Daemen racked up 12 kills and a .545 hitting percentage in the fourth set, and followed up with five kills and a .333 hitting percentage in the deciding set. Daemen, which was coming off a 3-0 loss to national powerhouse UCLA in their regular season opener last week, avenged a five-set exhibition loss to Brock when the teams met last January. The Wildcats return to action next week with high-profile matches against 2019 national semifinalist Pepperdine (Tuesday, Jan. 14) and Harvard (Thursday, Jan. 16). Tickets for those matches, as well as a neutral site contest between the Waves and Crimson (Wednesday, Jan. 15) remain on sale, and can be purchased by calling (716) 839-8385. Print Friendly Version
