Wildcats Ride Strong Middle Quarters To Eighth-Straight Win

Daemen Outscores Rival Roberts Wesleyan 48-18 Over Second & Third Quarters

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Graduate student Ashli Jeune (Westampton, N.J.) was as hot as a summer afternoon, canning six first-half three-pointers en route to her third 20-point outing this season to lead Daemen College past rival Roberts Wesleyan College by an 80-48 final in East Coast Conference women's basketball action here today.

The result extends Daemen's winning streak to eight-straight games - the second-longest active streak in the NCAA Division II East Region behind the University of the Sciences (12-straight wins). Daemen, which is off to the best start of the program's NCAA Division II era, stands at 16-3 overall and 8-1 in ECC play. The Wildcats remain a game behind first-place St. Thomas Aquinas College (17-3, 9-0 ECC) in the ECC standings

It also marked Daemen's fourth-straight win in the series with Roberts Wesleyan, sweeping the teams' regular season meetings for the second-straight year. Daemen had defeated the Redhawks 70-47 at Lumsden Gymnasium back on December 7. Roberts Wesleyan, which had their own seven-game winning streak snapped last weekend, has now dropped three-straight games, falling to 11-8 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

  • Jeune scored 20 of her game-high 25 points in the first half as she drilled 6-of-9 shots from behind the three-point line in the period. She finished 6-for-12 from the field (and from three-point range) and 7-for-8 from the free throw line, while adding four rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks to her afternoon.
  • While Jeune cooled off after halftime, senior guard/forward Jordan Heinold (Hamburg, N.Y.) heated up, scoring 17 of her 20 points in the final 20 minutes. Heinold finished 7-for-9 from the field and 3-for-5 from three-point range while collecting a team-high nine rebounds.
