Sischo Earns Academic All-District Honors Redshirt Junior Center Is High Achiever On The Court & In The Classroom 2/20/2020 1:56:00 PM By: By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications AMHERST, N.Y. - Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named to the 2019-20 Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognizing his combined achievements on the court and in the classroom. Sischo is one of five players from NCAA Division II East Region institutions to be named to the Academic All-District team. In the classroom, he carries a 3.40 grade point average while studying sport management, a concentration within Daemen's business administration program. On the court, the 6-foot-9 center has been the catalyst behind Daemen's seventh 20-win season in the last nine years. He is the first men's basketball player in Daemen's NCAA Division II era (2015-present) to garner Academic All-District honors. "We are incredibly proud of Andrew for the hard work he's put in to develop himself as both a student and player," said Daemen head coach Mike MacDonald. "It's a tremendous honor for him to be named to the Academic All-District Team. Over the course of his career, he's proven himself to be an All-American caliber player, and now he'll be under the same consideration as a student. Andrew has come to represent everything we look for in a Daemen men's basketball player." To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be a starter of important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, and they must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility with at least one full calendar year completed at his/her current institution. Those selected to the Academic All-District Team will advance to the Academic All-America selection process. The CoSIDA Academic All-America Team will be announced in mid-March. Sischo is averaging 24.1 points and 11.4 rebounds per game for the 21-6 Wildcats. The redshirt junior center leads the East Coast Conference and East Region in scoring and also ranks among the Division II national leaders in scoring (8th), rebounding (3rd), made field goals (3rd), field goal percentage (10th) and double-doubles (2nd). He's been a two-time Division II National Player of the Week and a five-time ECC Player of the Week this season. Today's announcement marks the second academic honor of Sischo's career. He was additionally named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court following a stellar redshirt sophomore season in which he averaged 20.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. Sischo is a two-time first-team All-ECC selection and the reigning ECC and East Region Player of the Year. He currently stands as one of only three players in Daemen's program history to have totaled at least 1,600 points and 800 rebounds, and has led the Wildcats to a 67-22 overall record over the last three seasons. Sischo was joined on the Academic All-District Team by Tom Brown of Le Moyne College, Will Moreton of Stonehill College, Ronnie Silva of Adelphi University and Peyton Wejnert of Pace University. Daemen College features the only NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 17 intercollegiate teams.
