36 Daemen Student-Athletes Earn D2 ADA Academic Achievement Awards 8/27/2020 4:20:00 PM By: By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications AMHERST, N.Y. - Thirty-six Daemen College student-athletes, representing 16 of the college's 17 intercollegiate athletic programs, have been named recipients of the Division 2 Athletic Directors Association (D2 ADA) Academic Achievement Awards, recognizing their accomplishments in the classroom during the 2019-20 academic year. "We congratulate the 36 Daemen student-athletes who have been recognized with D2 ADA Academic Achievement Awards today. The past academic year brought forth unprecedented challenges for our student-athletes who remained undeterred in pursuit of their goals. Year in and year out, Daemen student-athletes continue to demonstrate their dedication to the educational experience," said Traci Murphy, director of athletics. Daemen's honorees were among the 15,214 recognized student-athletes from 200 institutions nationwide. It marks the most participation from institutions and the highest number of recognized student-athletes in the 13-year history of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Awards program. A total of 429 student-athletes from East Coast Conference affiliates like Daemen were recognized. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) had the most award recipients with 1,375. Individually, the PSAC's Gannon University led the way with 219 honorees. "In a year when we can use all of the good news, the D2 ADA Officers and Board of Directors are proud to recognize the highest number of student-athletes with the Academic Achievement Award than ever before. The nominations also came from a record number of institutions, showcasing the passion and dedication of our Association and Division II as a whole," said D2 ADA President JR Smith, director of athletics at Chadron State College (Neb.), in a press release. To be eligible, student-athletes must hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level classes and been an active member of an intercollegiate team during the 2019-20 academic year.
