AMHERST, N.Y. - Sam Hanes (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Alyssa Diaz (Rochester, N.Y.) of the Daemen College women's soccer team have each been recognized by the East Coast Conference for their recent performances. Hanes has been named the ECC Offensive Player of the Week, while Diaz was selected as the ECC Rookie of the Week for games played October 11-17. The official announcement of ECC weekly awards was made this afternoon in the league's weekly sport report.

Hanes and Diaz both played important roles in Daemen's 2-2 tie at Bridgeport this past Saturday - the team's only game of the week. The draw kept the Wildcats unbeaten in conference play (5-0-1) and pushed their overall record to 6-4-1 this season. Daemen sits alone in first place in the ECC standings with 16 points, one ahead of Mercy and Molloy which are tied for second.

With Daemen trailing 2-0, the Wildcats got on the board in the 54th minute of the contest when Hanes found Diaz streaking up the right side. The freshman Diaz netted her fourth goal of the season, cutting the deficit in half.

The duo then teamed up to tie the contest in the 80th minute. Diaz carried into the attacking third, drew a defender and the UB goalkeeper before sliding a pass to a streaking Hanes who completed the play.

The one-goal, one-assist output from Hanes gives her four points this season and 21 in her career (seven goals, seven assists). Hanes is the third Daemen player to garner ECC Offensive Player of the Week honors this season, joining junior forward Tatyjana Scalisi (Williamsville, N.Y.) and sophomore forward Brooke Amato (Grand Island, N.Y.).

In addition to her four goals, Diaz now has four assists and 12 points this season. She ranks fifth in the conference in points - first among freshmen. Diaz is the second Daemen player to earn ECC Rookie of the Week honors this season, joining classmate Baylin Tighe (Tonawanda, N.Y.).

Daemen returns to action this Saturday, October 23 when they host ECC newcomer Staten Island at 1:30 p.m.
