Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.),
Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.),
Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.), and
Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, FL.) all picked up wins in both doubles and singles play Sunday morning to help Daemen open East Coast Conference play with a 6-1 win over Molloy at Eisenhower Park.
Hannah Pagano (Goshen, N.Y.) also contributed to the team win with a victory in singles play.
The team's performance brought the Wildcats'Â overall record to 3-2 on the season. It marked their first win over Molloy since 2017 as the Wildcats improved to 5-4 in the all-time series.Â
Meanwhile, Molloy dropped to 0-3 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. The Lions are competing for the first time since opting out of the 2020-21 entirely due to COVID-19.Â
Doubles Report:Â Daemens doubles deliver again
The morning began with Daemen claiming victory in two of three doubles matches to win the doubles point. Rubio and Stasiuk paired up and came away with a 6-1 win, while Scime and Del Leon had a very strong performance and won 6-0. However, Molloy was able to pick up one doubles win by a 6-0 score on the third doubles court.
Singles Report: Wildcats win 5 of 6, Stasiuk rallies back
Rubio continued with her winning ways Sunday morning with a 7-5, 7-5 win on the first singles court. Stasiuk would drop the first set 3-6 but rallied back to win the next two by scores of 6-1 and 6-3, giving Daemen their second singles win of the day.
Scime and Del Leon both continued their dominant performances when they won 6-0, 6-2, and 6-0, 6-0, respectively, building on strong showings earlier in the day.
Molloy's lone point was earned by a 6-0, 6-0 win on the fifth singles court.
Pagano would finish the dual off with a hard fought win 6-4, 7-5.
Match Notes
- Stasiuk now has 74 combined singles/doubles wins in her career. She ascends to sole possession of third place on the program's all-time wins list. Stasiuk entered the match with 72 career wins, tied with Jessica Robins for third all-time.Â
- Daemen is off to a 1-0 start in conference play for just the fourth time since joining the ECC in 2013. The Wildcats have now won back-to-back conference openers for the first time in program history.Â
