WOMEN'S TRIATHLON COLLEGIATE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS - DIVISION II RACE - FULL RESULTS

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Daemen women's triathlon team saw three triathletes compete in the Women's Triathlon National Championships hosted today by Arizona State University at Tempe Town Lake. Daemen returned to the national meet for the first time since 2019 after the event was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic. Daemen has attended the national meet in five out of seven years as a varsity program.

Sophomore Bella Buenting (Chanhassen, Minn) led the way for the Wildcats with a final time of 1:13:42.1 which was good for 30th place out of 67 total competitors in the Division II championship race. Graduate student Savannah Warner (Elma, N.Y.) had a final time of 1:21:17.0 which placed her 49th overall. Sophomore Sadé Smith (Dumfries, Va.) finished in 56th place with a final time of 1:29:46.5.

The race was won by Finja Schierl from Wingate University with a time of 1:06:15.7.

In addition to Buenting, Smith and Warner, Daemen's Keagan Carroll (Woodbridge, Va.) and Corinne Hill (Middleport, N.Y.) competed in an earlier race as part of the Arizona State Draft Legal Challenge - a race open to competitors from all age groups and not tied to NCAA competition. Carroll, a junior, placed 187th overall and 12th in the female 20-24 age bracket with a time of 1:27:40.0. Hill continued her freshman season by placing 192nd overall and 16th in the female 19-and-under age bracket, finishing with a time of 1:30:12.3. The open race featured 228 competitors.

The national championship meet concludes the fall portion of the Wildcats' 2021-22 schedule. The team will return to competition next spring with a schedule that will be announced at a later date.
