LOCK HAVEN, PA. – The Daemen men's soccer team suffered its sixth one-goal loss of the 2021 season and their second in only a three-day span with a 4-1 loss against the Lock Haven Bald Eagles of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tuesday night at Hubert Jack Stadium in Lock Haven, Pa.
Despite a penalty kick goal from sophomore defender Michel Holscher (Hamminkeln, Germany) at the 27:46 mark to cut Lock Haven's lead in half, 2-1, the Bald Eagles had too many offensive opportunities, largely in part due to the strong play of graduate student midfielder Beckham Sibiski (one goal, two assists, four total points.) and a two-goal effort from freshman forward Samuel Hershey.
With the loss, Daemen men's soccer drops to 4-11-0 overall and have now lost consecutive matches following a 1-0 home victory versus Staten Island on Oct. 23. Daemen is now 2-9 in their last 11 contests following a 4-1 win over D'Youville on Sept. 18. Daemen entered Tuesday night looking to bounce back following a gut-wrenching 2-1 double overtime loss at Mercy on Oct. 30.
With the victory, Lock Haven – who honored their senior players before the contest – improved to 12-2-2 overall, are winners in six consecutive contests and have won 12 of their last 14 contests.
HIGHLIGHTS
- One of the top players in the PSAC, Hershey quickly helped the Bald Eagles establish the tone with two scoring plays within the first 25 minutes of action. In the ninth minute, off a throw-in from redshirt freshman defender David Dries, Hershey fired a lower right shot to give Lock Haven a 1-0 lead. Then, at the 24:37 mark, Sibiski placed a perfect corner kick to Hershey, whose header drilled the ball to the high right corner of the net. Lock Haven had jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
- Shortly after Hershey's second goal, Holscher cut into Daemen's lead after a penalty kick was awarded to the Wildcats. At the 27:46 mark, Holscher converted the penalty kick to cut the deficit in half, 2-1. This was Daemen's third penalty kick goal of the 2021 season. The Bald Eagles went into the locker room with a 2-1 lead at the half.
- Lock Haven extended their lead with two more goals in the second half to secure the victory. In the 52nd minute, Sibiski scored after intercepting an errant pass in front of the Daemen net and fired into the open twine for a 3-1 Lock Haven lead. Junior midfielder Andrea DiSomma concluded Lock Haven's scoring in the 76th minute when Sibiski set him up for the goal within striking distance.
- Lock Haven outshot Daemen, 15-7 and recorded eight shots on goal. Daemen and Lock Haven recorded three shots on goal each in the first half. The Bald Eagles also out-edged the Wildcats in corner kicks, 4-2.

- Senior goalkeeper Marcos Lerma Escobar (Zaragoza, Spain) recorded four saves for the Wildcats in the loss. Today marked the veteran's 14th start of the season (17th of career) and had started the Wildcats' first nine contests in 2021. The veteran was coming off a season-high nine-save performance in Daemen's 2-1 double overtime loss at Mercy on Oct. 30. His counter-part, redshirt junior Jason Keller, saved three of Daemen's four shots on goal in 81 minutes of play before he was relieved by redshirt freshman Brady Freiwald to wrap up regulation time.
