Lubbock Christian Prevails In Rematch Of Elite Eight Game

Wildcats Suffer 62-37 Setback To Defending National Champions

LUBBOCK, Texas. - Graduate student Allie Schulte totaled 17 points to lead tournament host Lubbock Christian University to a 62-37 victory over Daemen College tonight during second night action of the Lady Chap Classic.

The game was a rematch of last year's NCAA Division II Tournament national quarterfinal game, Daemen's first Elite Eight appearance in program history. The Lady Chaps posted a 66-49 win in that game and went on to claim the NCAA Division II national championship. LCU opened the season ranked No. 1 in both the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) preseason polls. Daemen entered the year ranked No. 20 by the WBCA and No. 8 by the D2SIDA.

LCU, which is currently ranked third in the South Central Region and No. 10 nationally by the D2SIDA, improved to 6-1 on the year. Daemen, ranked No. 5 in the D2SIDA East Region poll, saw its two game winning streak come to an end and now stands at 2-2. Both teams posted wins during the opening round last night. Daemen rallied to post a 54-53 win over Angelo State University, while the Lady Chaps defeated No. 1 ranked Lander, 76-72.
