SYRACUSE, N.Y. - An 11-2 run late in the second half broke open a close game and sparked Le Moyne College to an 84-77 victory over Daemen College here tonight at Ted Grant Court on the Le Moyne Campus.
The host Dolphins registered their second-straight win and improved to 5-3 on the season. Daemen suffered their second-straight loss and fell to 3-5 on the year.
Both teams put together early runs and the Dolphins held a 21-18 lead midway through the first half. The game was tied at 28 with seven minutes left before halftime when a jumper by Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) sparked the Wildcats on a 12-5 run. The Daemen lead was still seven points, 42-35, when back-to-back steals by Le Moyne led to four straight points for the hosts. Daemen would take a 46-44 lead into intermission.
The teams traded buckets for most of the second half and the Dolphins held a 67-65 lead with just over six minutes to play when a layup by redshirt freshman Jack Poirier ignited an 11-2 run by the hosts. A pull up jumper by Poirier with 4:01 left capped the run and gave the Dolphins a 78-67 lead. Back-to-back three-pointers by Daemen cut the lead to five points with just over a minute left, but the Wildcats would come no close than five points down the stretch.
