KENMORE, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's bowling team opened its 2020-21 season by taking part in a quad match hosted by Medaille College this evening at Classic Lanes. The Wildcats prevailed in one of three matches played this evening. All three matches were scored using the Baker total pin format.

Daemen opened the evening with a 937-897 loss to host Medaille. The Wildcats held a 738-725 lead after game four, but the Mavericks secured the win with a 212-159 victory in the fifth and final game. The Wildcats turned in their highest pin total of the night in match two, but fell to rival Roberts Wesleyan College 1,021-982. The teams split the first four games, before the Redhawks secured the win with a 203-185 win in game five. Daemen closed out the night with an 867-742 victory over D'Youville College. The Wildcats swept all five games to secure the win.

Tonight marked Daemen's first action in 368 days due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The team's last competition came on February 16, 2020 when they captured the Brother Patrick Lacey Memorial Tournament title for the second time in three seasons. Daemen's final dual match and the East Coast Conference Championships were canceled last March due to the emergence of the pandemic. The start of the 2020-21 season was delayed four months. The collegiate bowling season usually kicks off in early October.

The Wildcats boast a veteran-laden roster the features eight returners. Seniors Katlyn Newberry (Rochester, N.Y.), Alex Syrotynski (East Greenbush, N.Y.), Adrianna Pencek (Dunkirk, N.Y.) and Alex Hasiotis (Rochester, N.Y.) return to lead the team. Sophomores Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.) and Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) also return after each made an immediate impact as rookies last season. The Wildcats are coming off a 40-34 campaign last season which established a new program record for wins in a season.

Daemen returns to action tomorrow (Feb. 19) when it takes part in a Tri-Match hosted by D'Youville College.
