AMHERST, N.Y. - Graduate student Sean Fasoyiro (Houston, Tex.) scored a career-high 31 points and redshirt senior Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) registered his seventh double-double of the year to lead the Daemen College men's basketball team to a 98-67 victory over D'Youville College tonight at Lumsden Gymnasium on the Daemen campus. Daemen ran its winning streak to four games and improved to 6-3 overall and 6-1 in the East Coast Conference. ECC newcomer D'Youville dropped the 1-11 overall and 0-7 in the league.
It marked the third and final meeting of the season between the two cross-town rivals. Daemen prevailed in all three meetings this year and the Wildcats now own a 9-0 advantage in the all-time series. Prior to this season the teams had not met since 2004.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Fasoyiro stuffed the stat sheet for the second-straight game, as he finished with 31 points, seven rebounds, four steals, three assists and a season-high three blocks. He shot 12-for-20 from the field overall and canned 4-of-7 for long range. The reigning ECC Defensive Player of the Week, he posted 23 points, six boards, five assists and three steals in an 82-51 win over Mercy this past weekend.
- It was just another night at the office for Sischo, who entered the game averaging 27.7 points and a Division II—best 14.0 rebounds per game. The All-American connected on 9-of-11 shots and totaled 25 points and 12 rebounds. The reigning ECC Player of the Week, he has now totaled 54 career double-doubles.
- Freshman Andrew Mason (Webster, N.Y.) scored in double figures for the fourth-straight game and finished with 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists. The reigning ECC Rookie of the Week, he has now scored in double figures five times this season.
- Senior guard Kyle Harris (Buffalo, N.Y.) added seven points, six rebounds. two assists and two blocks, while freshman Tyler Hind (Randolph, N.Y.) also netted seven points.
- Redshirt junior forward Jaeger Martino paced the Saints with 18 points, as he connected on 9-of-16 shots. Junior forward Garrian Wade added 14 points.
PERIOD-BY-PERIOD SUMMARY
First Half (Daemen 51, D'Youville 32) - Daemen held an 11-10 lead five minutes into the game when the Wildcats took control with a 10-0 run. A three-pointer by Fasoyiro with 13:06 in the frame capped the run and gave the hosts a 21-10 lead. Another triple by Fasoyiro at the 10:17 mark gave the Wildcats a 30-14 lead and the advantage was 20 points, 45-25, after Sischo made one of two free throws with a 3:45 left before halftime. The teams traded buckets the rest of the frame and the hosts took a 51-32 lead into the break.
Second Half (Daemen 47, D'Youville 35) - The teams traded buckets early in the second half and the Daemen lead was still 20 points, 70-50, when the Wildcats secured the win with 11 unanswered points. Harris scored seven of the 11 points and his layup with 9:08 to play capped the run and gave the hosts an 81-50 lead. D'Youville came no closer than 26 points down the stretch.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Daemen shot 16-of-28 (57%) from the field in the second half and shot a season-high 54-percent (37-for-68) from the floor overall. The Wildcats went 7-of-26 from three-point land and made 17-of-22 free throws.
- D'Youville shot just 37-percent (26-for-61) from the field overall. The Saints made 5-of-19 from downtown and converted 10-of-18 from the charity stripe.
- Daemen finished with a 46-38 edge in total rebounds.The Wildcats also posted an advantage in points off turnovers (18-5), second chance points (17-13), points in the paint (52-34) and fast break points (14-2).
GAME NOTES
- Sischo has now scored 20 or more points in 52 career games and has scored in double figures in 59Â consecutive games.
- In 97 games, he has totaled 2,039 points and 1,016 rebounds. He is the only player in program history—and just the second player in ECC history—to total 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rounds.Â
- During the course of tonight's game, Sischo moved into second place in career points among the ECC's all-time leaders. He overtook Roger Powers of Saint Rose (2,027) and Nick Corbett of Molloy (2,032), and now trails only Justin Reyes of St. Thomas Aquinas who sits atop the list with 2,247 points. Sischo also ranks fourth among the ECC's all-time leading rebounders.Â
- Fasoyiro has reached double figures in eight of nine games this season and is averaging 17.1 points per game. He joins Sischo as the only Daemen players to score 30 points in a game this season.
- Mason has started all nine games and is averaging 12.8 points and 7.6 rebounds. He also ranks second on the team in three-pointers made (19).
- The win was Daemen's 55th straight when reaching the 90-point plateau. Since the start of the 2009-10 season, Daemen is 85-2 when scoring 90 or more points. Their last loss when scoring 90 or more points came January 7, 2014 at Dominican (98-93, overtime).
- The Wildcats are averaging 92.0 points during their current four game winning streak.
- Daemen is coming off back-to-back 24-win seasons that resulted in NCAA tournament berths. Daemen's 89 wins from 2016-17 through 2019-20 represents the most successful four-year span in program history. The Wildcats were hit hard by graduation, losing four of their five starters, all of whom were 1,000-point scorers..
