The win was Daemen's seventh in as many matches this season, but will count only as an exhibition because the match was played using NCAA Division III substitution rules which differ from that of Divisions I and II. Nazareth, which is the No. 15 ranked team in this week's NVA/AVCA Division III coaches' poll, dropped to 2-2 on the season. IMPACT PLAYERS Sophomore outside hitter Zach Schneider (Lockport, N.Y.) paced the Wildcats with a match-high 18 kills and eight digs. The 6-foot-6 Schneider added three service aces, two blocks and attacked at a .344 clip. Sophomore outside hitter Ryan Parker (Fairport, N.Y.) posted a double-double (14 kills, match-high 12 digs) and senior opposite Robert Patzer (Liverpool, N.Y.) chipped in with 11 kills. Junior setter Michael Krueger (Canonsburg, Pa.) totaled a match-high 44 assists. Antonio Sargent put down 17 kills while Owen Wickens totaled 12 kills and 20 assists to pace the Golden Flyers. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE Daemen came out the gates swinging well, posting hitting percentages of .385 and .429 while totaling 26 kills in the opening two sets. The Nazareth defense stiffened though, holding the Wildcats to sub .200 percentages in sets three and four, allowing them to even the match. Daemen rebounded back to a .400 hitting percentage in the deciding set, totaling seven kills with just one error. Daemen held advantages in total kills (59-43), hitting percentage (.295-.125), assists (54-45) and digs (43-30). TURNING POINT After dropping the third and fourth sets, the Wildcats jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the deciding frame. The Daemen run featured solid serving from freshman Cameron Milligan (Pavilion, N.Y.) and kills by Patzer and Schneider. The Golden Flyers closed to within 9-5, but a kill by junior Henry Moffitt (Sydney, Australia) stabilized the Wildcats who won six of the final seven points in the set. Nazareth totaled just three kills while committing six hitting errors (-.143 hitting percentage) in the deciding frame. MATCH NOTES Daemen's program is in its third season of existence. After posting a 6-17 overall record in their inaugural 2019 season, the Wildcats doubled their win total in 2020, finishing 12-7 overall before the final 10 matches were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Wildcats' current eight-match winning streak surpasses the prior program record of seven consecutive wins set last season. All seven wins came during the month of February (2020). Daemen has won 15 of their last 17 matches. Daemen was ranked second in the Off the Block Independent Teams Preseason Poll which was released in late December. The Wildcats return 13 players who have been with the program for at least a year, including four juniors who came in with the program's inception.
