Sischo, Fasoyiro & Harris Earn All-ECC Distinction

Sischo named ECC Player of the Year for third consecutive season

3/4/2021 2:38:00 PM

AMHERST, N.Y. - For the third consecutive season, Daemen College center Andrew Sischo has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year, headlining a trio of All-ECC selections for the Wildcats. Sischo, who also garnered his fourth consecutive All-ECC first team selection, was joined by teammates Sean Fasoyiro (Houston, Texas) and Kyle Harris (Buffalo, N.Y.) among the honorees. Fasoyiro was named to the All-ECC first team, and Harris garnered All-ECC second team honors.

The announcement of All-ECC teams was made this afternoon in a press release from conference headquarters on Long Island.

After earning consensus All-American honors in 2019-20, Sischo seemingly took his game to another level, averaging ECC-bests of 27.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per game this season. He enters the postseason ranked second in scoring and first in rebounding among the Division II national leaders. He also leads the ECC and ranks 10th nationally in field goal percentage (.640) and has totaled nine double-doubles in 10 games this season, including a 42-point, 17-rebound outburst vs. Roberts Wesleyan on Feb. 8.

It's also been a season full of milestones for the 6-foot-9 redshirt senior. During Daemen's game at Roberts Wesleyan on Feb. 11, Sischo became Daemen's all-time leading scorer, surpassing the mark of 1,962 points set by Robert Robinson from 1988-92. Just nine days later, Sischo scored his 2,000th point and grabbed his 1,000th rebound during an 82-51 win over Mercy. He became the first player in program history, the second player in ECC history and the 15th player in NCAA Division II East Region history to reach both milestones. Sischo, who plans to utilize an extra year of eligibility granted to all winter sport student-athletes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ranks second in scoring and fourth in rebounding among the ECC's all-time leaders. Already Daemen's record holder for career field goals, Sischo became the ECC's leader just this past weekend. In 99 career games, he has totaled 2,093 points, 1.039 rebounds and 832 field goals.

Fasoyiro has made an immediate impact in his first season with the program. The 6-foot-3 graduate student appeared in 81 games for Franklin Pierce over the previous three seasons, but the 2020-21 campaign has been his finest. Fasoyiro has started all 11 games and is contributing 15.2 points (nearly double his best season at FPU), 6.8 rebounds, a team-high 3.9 assists and a team-high 1.5 steals per game. He's reached double figure scoring in nine games, including a career-high 31 points vs. D'Youville on Feb. 24, and has posted three double-doubles. He ranks seventh in scoring and fifth in assists among the ECC leaders.

Sischo and Fasoyiro were joined on the All-ECC first team by Osbel Caraballo, Demetre Roberts and Grant Singleton of St. Thomas Aquinas, Reggie Clark of Roberts Wesleyan and James Montgomery of Molloy.

Harris, a 6-foot-3 senior guard, earns All-ECC honors for the first time in his two-year Daemen career. After appearing in all 32 games, primarily as a reserve, and averaging 4.4 points per game as a junior, Harris has increased his production as a member of Daemen's starting lineup this season. Appearing in all 11 games, including nine as a starter, Harris is contributing 12.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game - all career-highs. He scored a career-high 22 points in two wins over ECC newcomer D'Youville, and netted 19 points in Daemen's signature win of the season - an 84-81 overtime triumph at nationally ranked St. Thomas Aquinas this past weekend.

Harris was joined on the All-ECC second team by Roberts Wesleyan's Isaiah Lewis and Armon Nasseri, Mercy's Kerwin Prince and Molloy's Steven Torre.

In addition to Sischo's Player of the Year award, the ECC handed out major awards to Prince (Rookie of the Year) and to Amari Lee of Roberts Wesleyan and Kevin Lynch of St. Thomas Aquinas who were named Co-Defensive Players of the Year. St. Thomas Aquinas bench boss Tobin Anderson was named ECC Coach of the Year.

Daemen (7-4, 7-2 ECC) is the No. 2 seed in this week's ECC Championship. The Wildcats host third-seeded Roberts Wesleyan in the semifinals Friday (Mar. 5) at Lumsden Gymnasium, and will be seeking their first ECC Championship finals appearance since 2016.
