Wildcats Suffer Nail-Biting Setback At Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Daemen women's tennis team saw their season-opening win streak come to an end today with a slim 4-3 defeat to Kutztown. The non-conference match was a late addition to the Wildcats' schedule this week, and was played as the Keystone Courts.

With the loss, Daemen drops to 3-1 on the season. The Wildcats had opened 3-0 for the first time in the nine-year history of the program.

Kutztown, a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, snapped a two-match skid and improved to 3-4 this season.

Amanda Grebosky and Jess Marks scored a 6-3 win on the No. 2 doubles court, and Claudia Makarski and Catherine Maher completed the KU sweep with a 6-4 win on the No. 1 doubles court. Daemen entered the match with a perfect 9-0 mark in doubles play this season.

SINGLES REPORT
Daemen was able to get back into the match with a trio of singles victories. At the top of the lineup, freshman Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.) and senior Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) continued their winning ways. Stasiuk was pushed to three sets for the first time this season, but outlasted Grebosky 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 on the No. 2 singles court.
