Daemen Day Of Giving Is Rousing Success For Division of Athletics

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College Division of Athletics is pleased to share that more than $27,000 was raised Tuesday on Daemen Day of Giving, a 24-hour online giving campaign aimed at increasing philanthropy among the entire Daemen community, including alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff and students. It marked the most successful giving day for the Division of Athletics since it became an annual event in 2017.

Donations were made to various accounts that impact the Division of Athletics, including the Wildcat Athletic Association, Athletics Scholarship Fund, Wildcats Gotta Play Fund, Varsity Letter Society and Academic Excellence and Leadership Development Fund. In addition, the bulk of donations were made directly to Daemen's 17 intercollegiate athletic programs. In all, 551 donations were made, totaling $27,735 - up sharply from the $11,083 raised on Daemen Day of Giving in 2019 (there was no Daemen Day of Giving in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). One hundred percent of donations will be put towards enhancing the student-athlete experience through athletic scholarships, recruitment, improvements to facilities and investments in coaching staffs - all in line with The Wildcat Way, the five-year strategic vision for Daemen Athletics announced last month.

"We are ecstatic with the outcome of Daemen Day of Giving and very humbled by the generosity of our many donors," said Director of Athletics Traci Murphy. "It was exciting to see the involvement of so many of our student-athletes throughout the day as they were helping to spread the word across social media. This annual event really unites the student-athletes with the college's stakeholders, and provides an opportunity for them to engage supporters in a medium they live in every day. It's important for coaches and student-athletes to take an active role in raising funds that directly benefit the needs of their respective programs. After everything we've experienced during the last year, we are forever grateful for those who have chosen to invest in The Wildcat Way."

The top performing programs included men's and women's cross country/track and field, men's volleyball and women's soccer. The cross country/track and field program netted 206 donations totaling nearly $9,000. Men's volleyball had 87 donations worth more than $4,500, and women's soccer brought in 82 donations totaling nearly $4,000. The men's and women's basketball programs also brought in more than 40 donations each totaling more than $5,000. The average donation across the board was just over $50.

The success of the Division of Athletics played a large part in helping the college reach its fundraising goals for the day, well surpassing the overall goal of 350 donations.
