Women's Soccer Falls To Roberts Wesleyan In Thruway Rivalry

First match between teams since October 2019

ROCHESTER, NY –  On Saturday night, another chapter of the Thruway Rivalry was written and the intensity was on full display again. In what was a hard fought contest, Daemen women's soccer lost to Roberts Wesleyan, 1-0, on a rainy night at the RWC Soccer Stadium. This was their first showdown since a 0-0 double overtime tie on Oct. 26, 2019. With the victory, Roberts Wesleyan improves to 3-0 on the season. With the loss, Daemen drops to 0-2 overall.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • At the 57:06 mark, junior Sydney Regan connected off a pass from fellow classmate Eboni Redman-Coombs to give the Redhawks a 1-0 lead. This was the first goal scored between these two teams in 167 minutes.  
  • Roberts Wesleyan outshot Daemen 15-10 in the contest but only 9-7 in the second half. The Redhawks also outedged Daemen in corner kicks, 3-2.
  • Freshman midfielder Madita Zeitz (Malsch, Germany) and freshman forward Brooke Amato (Grand Island, N.Y.) led Daemen with two shots on goal apiece against RWC.
  • Sophomore midfielder Nicole Grichen (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) sophomore forward Tatyjana Scalisi (Williamsville, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Katelyn Sidoti (Rochester, N.Y.) had one shot on goal each for Daemen.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Tori DeLappi (Medina, Ohio) made her second straight start and recorded four first-half saves for Daemen. She was relieved to start the second half by senior Maddie Flores (Seattle, Wash.) who came on to make six saves. 

GAME NOTES
  • Saturday marked the second of six contests on the abbreviated spring schedule which runs through May 2. The Wildcats' 2020 season had been delayed to the spring of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Roberts Wesleyan now leads Daemen 12-8-4 in the all-time series.  
  • Daemen returns 17 players from their 2019 team, including six who started at least 10 games. The Wildcats finished with an 11-4-3 record in 2019, their most wins in a single season since 2012 (11-9).  

ON THE HORIZON
Daemen continues their season when they head to Buffalo on April 11 where they'll face East Coast Conference newcomer D'Youville with kickoff slated for 3 p.m.
