The Wildcats, who opened the season earlier this week with a 4-3 win over RIT, dropped to 1-1 overall, while the Cavaliers improved to 1-0. Walsh posted a 14-5 record last season and has now won 11 of their last 13 matches. DOUBLES REPORT: Walsh opens up 1-0 lead Walsh opened the match by sweeping through doubles play. Shantala Uzcategui and Isabella Sanchez started things with a 6-1 win on the third doubles court. That was followed by a 6-2 win on the top doubles court by Nicole Beidacki and Carla Padberg, clinching the point for the Cavaliers. Things were a little tighter on the second doubles court, but in the end, Risako Umekuni and Alexa Gamborino emerged with a 6-3 victory over Wildcat freshmen Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.). Del Leon was making her collegiate debut. SINGLES REPORT: Walsh sweeps singles action Unfortunately for the Wildcats, Walsh continued to pick up points. Umekuni (No. 1 singles: 6-2, 6-3), Uzcategui (No. 2 singles: 6-3, 6-0), Beidacki (No. 3 singles: 6-3, 6-0), Padberg (No. 4 singles: 6-1, 6-2) and Gamborino (No. 5 singles: 6-1, 6-0) all earned their second points of the match. Walsh completed the full dual match sweep with a win at sixth singles by Chiara Wolff (6-0, 6-1). MATCH NOTES Walsh remained unbeaten in the all-time series with Daemen, improving to 4-0. Today's match marked the first meeting between the two since Feb. 16, 2019. The 2021-22 season marks the 10th in Daemen's program history. The Wildcats return five players from their 2020-21 team that posted a 5-5 overall record and a 3-2 record in East Coast Conference play. It marked the program's first season with an overall winning percentage of .500 or better, and the first time that the team qualified for the ECC Championships. Daemen was picked fourth out of six teams in the ECC preseason coaches' poll released late last month. NEXT SERVE Daemen turns its attention to the final home match of their season-opening homestand.
