The Wildcats suffered a 6-3 loss to host Rochester Institute of Technology late this afternoon at the RIT Tennis Courts. Seven of the nine players on the Wildcats' roster saw action. Daemen scored points at first doubles, first and fourth singles, but it wasn't enough to get past the host Tigers. RIT, a member of NCAA Division III and the Liberty League, improved to 1-0 this season. Junior Ben Davis (Rochester, N.Y.) and sophomore Sam Greco (Amherst, N.Y.) teamed up on an 8-5 win in the No. 1 doubles position, besting RIT's Brennan Bull and Christian Berko. It marked the sixth win for the Davis-Greco tandem since the start of last season. Davis added his sixth singles win as a Wildcat - all in the No. 1 position of Daemen's lineup. Today, Davis was victorious 6-3, 6-2 over Bull. Junior Zachary Laplante (Ottawa, Ont.), a transfer from Salem University (W.Va.), picked up a win in his Daemen debut. LaPlante outlasted Joel Pho at fourth singles thanks to a 10-8 third-set tie-break, winning 6-7, 6-2, 1-0. Today's action was the first of three dual matches in the short fall season for the Wildcats. The majority of their 2021-22 schedule will be played next spring. Next up for the Wildcats is a trip to the ITA East Region Championships being held September 17-20 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Daemen College features the premier NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 18 intercollegiate teams.
